Hi, can anyone identify the make and year of this coffee table? It has two pull out trays either side and is made from rosewood I believe?? Thank you!

Hello.

I don't know much about the lovely table, but I must say that your room decor looks very honest.

Hello,

Aunt Mark

Ha ha! Indeed this isn't the finest room in the house! Please excuse the mess.

Need better pictures to be certain, but I would bet a fair amount that you do not have Rosewood there. I am also leaning towards late 60's American production, as well.

Really need better pictures of everything, though to make any determinations. Close ups of the top, bottom, any joints, those pull out trays. Not marked at all?

If it does turn out to be a stained ash/elm, american production, which is where I would stake my money, then we may have quite a bit of difficulty identifying it.

Hi there, thanks for your help. I have found out it is actually teak, not rosewood at all. Will upload some better photographs...

The table appear to have Scandinavian origins, I'm guessing middle 60's design. Your photos did not load properly so the details are sketchy. Arne Hovmand-Olsen designed a similar coffee table, but not exactly like your table. More photos are needed to make a definitive identification.

What a difference better pictures make. I take back most of my original observations and certainty. I would agree that now that I can actually see it, that it does look more likely to be Northern European. I still say that it is not rosewood, and would agree that a slightly stained teak or walnut is more likely. Those pull out trays on the side should be the feature that helps identify the table, if anything. I will keep looking.

I have plenty of pieces of teak furniture that are darker like this. Shaving with Occam's razor would suggest that this is just natural variation in the wood.

The dark streaks in the veneer top tell me that it has not seen much sunlight over its lifetime, so again, I think it is just naturally dark. Many more pieces executed in teak were darker like this when they began their lives, but have become the lighter color we see today, without dark streaks, due to solar fading.

I have lots of naturally dark teak, too. I like it.

Sometimes you can cut to the chase with an ID if you know where the query originates from---in this case, the UK, which would pretty much rule out American furniture. (Click on the user name for this info. Sometimes there isn't one but most of the time there is.)
