These look a little like the Finn Juhl style chairs Herringbone ID'd yesterday as John Stuart.  Anyone know if they are, or something else?

I don't know who made these stools and it is not quite John Stuart Inc., it could be any typical furniture maker that mimic the Danish modern look.

From what I learned in the past, I always thought (I could be wrong too) John Stuart Inc is not a furniture manufacturer but a furnishings showroom in New York City and other parts of the USA.  Think like Sears but in the higher end that catered to the Beverly Hills type of clientele.  The styles they sold varied from traditional reproductions and if modern, it was on the conservative side.  They labeled domestically made furniture (from any furniture manufacturering centers in the USA) with John Stuart Inc as well as high end imported products from all over the world and just like Sears, their  name is on the label but never actually manufactured any of those products.

@minimoma Thanks for the interesting background info on John Stuart.  It seems you are correct that they were not a manufacturer.  I found this from the Grand Rapids Historical Commission.

    http://www.furniturecityhistory.org/company/3858/stuart-john-inc

"Grand Rapids city directories only list the company showroom in Grand Rapids from 1948 through 1956. Even though a John Stuart, Inc. catalog speaks of its factory in Grand Rapids, and pieces sold by the company bore its trademark, John Stuart, Inc. seems to have been a high-end designers' showroom for Early English, Georgian, American, and French Revivals and reproductions, as well as Modern residential furniture, made in a number of Grand Rapids factories."

To back minimoma, John Stuart also imported legit Danish furniture in the 60s. They used to be retailer for France and Son and as far as I know, they even sold their stuff with the John Stuart Inc. label only.
