I'm curious if anyone is aware of any vintage replicas of this chair? A couple things that stick out as odd to me are the backrest screw placement which are lower and front seat brace seem to be higher than other versions i've seen on the web.

Unless you can find evidence for this version as authentic (catalogs, other marked specimens, a receipt...), I would say it is not authentic.

Here is a catalog page:

Appears suspiciously fresh and somehow coarse. Back looks too flat. I'd be very wary,

I am not well-versed in this design, but just comparing with photos of legit chairs right now, I see quite a few variations in details. As spanky often recommends (smartly), one of the best ways to see slight variations for a chair of which you are unfamiliar, is to do side by side comparison of similar angled photos on your screen. Then you can quickly jump from detail to detail to see small differences.

And as tk has already noted, why would you think this is a vintage replica versus a modern one?

Since we are on the topic of Finn Juhl replicas, I just had to post my favorite one: a double knockoff by Matt Blatt. These guys were so lazy in their homework, that they ended up making a modern knockoff of a vintage design which looks like FJ but is not.

I think the main reason I suspect a vintage or a maybe a better term "old" replica is that i could not find a new replica of this chair to compare it to. The ubiquitous chieftain or 45 chair are easy to come across for comparison.

I too found the fabric seemed fresh but thought it had been reupholstered as the frame seems to be less "fresh" with signs of wear and a few loose joints.

Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts!

Del: Skepticism with expensive pieces of art is always wise, but I now have reason to think that the late 1950s catalog photo of the BO59 might not be accurate to what was first produced by Bovirke.

Thanks for your comment Leif. Do you happen to have an image of an earlier chair to share?

I can probably dig up a photo. I still think yours is not a legitimate one, however. It is not beech, and the earliest ones would be beech.
