Hello, this has come into my possession. I know nothing about it (this subject in general) except it was passed down and it is a "very good chair".
Any insight on the chair would be much appreciated.

@sunkao13gmail-com Looks legit to me although quite beaten up. It’s not only a very good chair, it’s the best, if you ask me. But you should have an expert take care of it.

Hi Sunkao,
You were advised correctly. It is indeed a very good chair. Few hand-me-downs are as nice. A few additional comments:
- The “elbow” joints look a little loose based on the small gaps. Often this is due to the “hip” lap joints of the bucket seat coming loose. Regluing the elbow joints will not solve the issue. The hip joints need to be fixed in some manner (reglued, add screws, etc), so that they are rigid once again. This will relieve the stress in the elbow joints when the user sits down. If not addressed, eventually someone will sit down with enough force that the wood around one of the elbows will fail (break). This has happened to a number of chairs that have surfaced in the secondary markets,
- the Niels Vodder heat stamp has a shortened leg for the “M” in Denmark. This feature pops up on many early production pieces. Most of the NV-45 chairs were outsourced to other shops in order for Vodder’s small workshop to meet demand.
- Although original leather upholstery will add value to a piece, reupholstering a fabric piece will not reduce value. And since your chair has already been reupholstered (incorrectly), it is definitely worth having it reupholstered again (this time correctly).
congrats. It is a very nice chair.
