I found these interesting chairs and I think they are so elegant and different, but I can’t find anything to similar to them anywhere! They have elements of Art Deco and mid century modern, and they’re not new. They could be from the 80’s though and remind me of some of Philippe Starck’s stuff. Has anyone here ever seen anything like these before?

@reamie The legs remind me of Shelby Williams "Gazelle" chairs.  What are the materials?  Is the frame aluminum?  Is the trim actual wood?  If so, does anyone know what type of burl that would be?  Is the upholstery vinyl?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for that they do look very similar! The seat is leather, and I think it’s a birdseye maple veneer. I’m not sure what the frame is as they haven’t arrived yet. They just seem to ooze quality so I want to know more!

With that style and combination of materials, you'd think they'd be easy to track down.  There must not be many others out there.

I know, right? I’ve searched all my trusty books and online sources but I just can’t track them down!

I found them by pure chance! I added the keyword Italian as they had that look of elegance and they popped up! They are Aria chairs by Luigi Origlia. Not super expensive but very elegant. Thanks for the input Mark!

Nice!  I was thinking Italian as well and searched with that as a keyword but never came across them.  It looks like they made them with a variety of backrest styles, like this all-wood one.

I always thought that was Birdseye maple, that may have hindered my search! Thanks for the information, it’s great to know what to look for if I see something like it again!
