ScottB, is there anything specific you need for this chair you posted? From the image, I see a vintage example (ally?) lounge chair with the earlier four star base and one of the many textile/upholstery by Girard for HM (possibly?) like the example I have in your other post (except mine has all black frame).

Thanks for your response. I had never seen an upholstered version of that chair - until your one in that photo you posted.
Were they common? I guess they didn't wear as well as the other ones so didn't last.
Do they command a premium because there are fewer of them?
The bloke who sold me those chairs last week has offered it to me. He is very kind and sold me those chairs for less than we both knew they were worth and the price we have agreed on for this one for is less than we both know it is worth, too. He is even going to bring it to my house. I think he likes the fact that I respect the furniture.
Given its condition, I'm wondering what it is worth?
I don't need another chair - my HM count is up to 22 now, which is a bit excessive - but I like it because it is a bit unusual.
These chairs had been in continuous production since 1958 by HM & Vitra in other parts of the world so they are quite common. As I mentioned before, these were first designed for residential use & was successful making the the transition for contract/office market. The earlier versions have a vinyl/synthetic upholstery called Saran, also Naugahyde & the many textiles designed by Alexander Girard for HM. Valuation is against DA forum rules but it is determined by several factors like rarity, demand, condition, provenance, location, etc. The link for the Eames office is a great place to look at vintage examples & historical background, also the HM 2017 catalog link I included in your other post. Check major auction houses or vintage shops in your area to get a better sense of worth.
Buy what you like that has meaning & purpose to you, but it is up to you to decide why you acquire these.
Thanks for the information. I'd say very few of the ones in coloured upholstery made it down here. I have never seen any. The only HM stuff that came down here before the mid - late 80s would have been from private buyers bringing it down themselves. It wasn't until my wife and two other people opened a HM dealership that there were big quantities of stuff that came here. They were fun times.
The bloke selling the chair wants $400 for it. I'll buy it and if I have to move it along one day.
