Hi,
This chair was a retirement gift for my great grandfather. It needs a bit of tlc, but I’m wondering if this type of chair has a specific name?
age wise, we’re probably talking late 1930s - early 1950s. Likely made in the UK.
it may be that it’s simply a ‘recliner’ as when you sit in it you can lean backwards and the back moves slightly and the seat forward slightly.
many thanks
@jason-2 Yeah, if this is what it does, then it's a recliner. Apart from being an armchair.
"People buy a chair, and they don't really care who designed it." (Arne Jacobsen)
Also called " fireside " chairs.
Might help with your search if you use this word, especially if you are located in the UK.

Recliner or fireside chair both work for me, but, to my eye, there's more here. Something refreshingly unapologetic and straightforward maybe. Most importantly, it looks comfy, inviting, and well-loved. Perhaps like your great grandfather.
