Any ideas who made this bespoke enormous lacquered goatskin bed?  

I very strongly doubt it would be solid wood underneath. The wood movement would cause wrinkles on the surface or tearing on the leather surface. It would also be significantly more expensive and constrain the sorts of ways that you can build the piece. It might be plywood, lumbercore, particle board, MDF, but not solid wood.

Heavy is nearly always an indication of particle board, unless it is new enough to be MDF. Glue is far denser and heavier by volume than any soft, inexpensive secondary wood. Only some tropical exotics are dense enough to feel heavy in a similar way.

Lumbercore and plywood tend to be a lot lighter since there is significantly less glue involved.

Ahh I see - thank you, that's very helpful. I guess because it's covered in goatskin and lacquered that adds to the weight substantially then! It's definitely real goatskin because there's a few bits of lacquer missing and I can see the skin beneath. I imagine it's too old to be MDF - I'm not sure where to date it, but I was thinking mid century or a bit later. I'm in Mexico so could have come from anywhere or been made here I guess. Quite a lot of Aldo Tura turns up here randomly, but I think far too late for him. Anyway, the mystery remains! Hopefully someone can identify the style or type of work... thanks again for the wood info, that's incredibly useful!

It looks to have been constructed in the 1990's to me. But I'm usually wrong.

hahaha quite possibly! Although I doubt someone would have made it in Boca Raton and transported it to Mexico City- my hunch is someone here did it but who knows. It would have certainly needed a huge bedroom, as it measures 80 x 595 x 235 cm
