Hi all,
I just picked up this rather unique Teak drop leaf coffee table with oak legs. It has a George Tanier stamp and it also has the remnants of Poul Jeppsen Mobelfabrik sticker (who I know produced some Grete Jalk designs)...
But I'm struggling to place the designer of this particular piece. I've seen similar designs (smaller side tables) attributed to Arne Vodder...
I also found this past thread from this forum: http://www.designaddict.com/forum/General-discussion/George-Tanier-Selection-table-found-thrift-shop
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

It's vodder from what I have been told. I know someone who owned one that said it had a sibast label on it along with the tanier label. I have an unmarked cocktail table with the same legs.

Bummer about the sun fading but you can probably colour match that with stain and bring it back to use.

Except that P. Jeppesen is not Sibast. So they aren't the same table. And Arne Vodder never designed for P. Jeppesen to my knowledge. So while it looks like it could be an Arne Vodder design aesthetically, I doubt that it is, a lot.
Also the floating table top with giant's arm braces (not quite the right term, but close) is not uncommon in Danish modern design. So it is really had to guess who it might be.

The dealer who told me that his coffee table (same as the one posted) was marked Sibast/Tanier has been doing this 20+ years and really knows his stuff/lives design. It is interesting he told me my table was Vodder and perhaps that is a common thread.

I should note that in Canada where both items were found, 99% of the market was recognizable danish designer modern. People bought the name and we got the best stuff offered. I rarely walk into a house where i can't ID all the pieces instantly. I laugh when people are paying big money for containers of this stuff and it's everywhere here.

Thanks for the feedback ossrk79 & Leif.
And agreed on the containers ossrk79... Plus it removes the fun in tracking these wonderful pieces down. Not to mention the early mornings... 😉
Cheers.

I just bumped into a catalog with Tanier in it. This coffee table, and a variety of other shapes with the same legs are in there. No mention of the maker.
The designer is listed as George Tanier.
This is in the 1953 Furniture Forum.
Oh, and Arne Vodder did design for P. Jeppesen. (But in the documentation I've seen, this coffee table is not there).

Thanks Leif! This reference is greatly appreciated. I've since come across additional pieces marked George Tanier and all with similar legs - which seem to be the consistent design element.

Yeah. They seem to have come in quite a variety of shapes. All with the same legs. Interesting that they came in walnut. Almost everything Danish in these early Furniture Fora seems to be walnut. There is one more shape on this page:

Leif, could you tell me if my George Tanier dining table is in that catalog?
http://www.designaddict.com/forum/Identification/Mysterious-and-beautifu...
I did not know that George Tanier was actually a designer as well as importer. I wonder where his designs were made? Since my table is also teak with oak, perhaps this is the answer to my mystery??
