Hi Again,
Bought this the other day as it kind of had something of the Vasarely about it and I really just liked it ... I suspect that it's just an amateur piece but if anyone knows different i'd love to know.
Also, and this might help settle a minor difference of opinion between my wife and I, is it hideous or rather fantastic? I tend to think that it really ties the room together man, but could be swayed towards my wife's opinion should the general consensus be against it 🙂
It's made of wool, is about 4ft x 4ft, and isn't signed as far as I can tell.
Cheers!
BB

Your appraisal makes sense to me, I'd call it a keeper.
You might try taping the fringe to the backside to see if it feels any better that way.
What are the objections?

Thanks for the feedback objectworship!
Her objections are many and varied but I think she summed it up best when she said 'sweetheart, it's just f*&!ing disgusting' 🙂
I totally get what you mean about the fringes though. I'm gonna give that a go and see how it looks ... but I'm not holding my breath on it changing the wife's opinion :).
Cheers

If my husband brought something like that home, I'd say it stays - fringe and all.
But if your wife thinks it looks f*&!ing disgusting, I'd say No.

My wife does not like it either. And I can't get past the crucifix....

It's not my cup of tea but i can see the appeal. ("Crucifix"--you mean the plus sign? Or is there a Jesus in there somewhere too?)
My guess is that it's a one-off by a skilled hobbyist weaver who wanted to try her or his hand at an op art effect with color gradations---maybe dyeing the wool specifically for this piece. The pattern is similar to that in early American coverlets that were woven at home on big floor looms with wool from the sheep on the farm, but scaled way up.

I'm attracted to handmade things, and they to me apparently.
They don't have to be "pretty." I would leave the fringe, that's part of the craftsmanship.
But, if she hates it, it won't make her feel any better!!
