Been looking for an authentic Eames chair for YEARS.. Haven't been able to find one I can afford. Came across a listing for an Estate sale featuring "Authentic Eames Chair". I need help figuring out if it's actually authentic or not. Looking at the picture, I'm pretty sure the ottoman is fake because it has 5 legs and screw holes, though I'm not sure about the chair itself.
Could someone help me out?
Thanks.
All you have to do most of the time is to compare the chair in question to photos of the real thing online. There are a number of authorized dealers and all have photos taken from several angles, making it pretty easy to check various characteristics against the real thing.
In your case, it took me all of 15 seconds to find a photo taken at almost exactly the same angle as yours. The base is the most obvious difference but the gap between the back sections is very different too. There are other things too but those two are all you need to know in this case.
If you really want to learn about the real chair, there's an excellent book which you can get on Amazon---The Eames Lounge Chair: An Icon of Modern Design
by Martin Eidelberg and Thomas Hine.
The chair doesn't look a tad bit close to real, no close up necessary.
What is necessary, however, is that you go pedal your knock offs elsewhere. Your thinly veiled attempt at posting 'advise' on identifying authentic designs, and then pointing us towards your barely legal operation, is rather offensive, and pretty much gaurantees that I would never consider buying a thing from you (even if I was in the market for a knock off, which I am not).
