Does anyone recognize the signature stamp on this piece?
I bought this framed print at a local Goodwill.
I don't know if it's a mass produced or limited edition print with some value to it but I thought it was a cool piece of art worth hanging.

It's an Escher.
Poke around for Maurice Escher and you'll be overwhelmed.
If it were an original, it would be hand-signed somewhere. I'd guess it's a reproduction as originals are quite valuable.

Your print is called...
...Bond of Union.
My beau-hunk has been an Escher fan since he was a kid,I think as much a fan of the art itself as with his approaches to infinity...
Yours must surely a print. I run across them very often in thrift stores.

Solange, wouldn't the original
edition be prints, too? Stone lithographs, if I'm not mistaken.
So as not to confuse, I would call sfguy's print a reproduction.

tktoo,
of course...I do not want to confuse guyinsf :-)....reproduction is the more accurate word.
I think Escher did some wood cuts also...

I'm sure you're right, Solange.
Escher was a master printmaker. His work is often poo-pooed by the fine art crowd, however. Perhaps unfairly. I admire the technical achievement evident in his work and, of course, his unique perspective.
Tastes wax and wane, but, alas, auction prices are the common measure for modern art. Only the test of time will decide Escher's true stature.

How To Identify Prints
I recommend an hour or two with this reference book and a cheap pocket microscope to anyone interested in buying prints at auctions, estate sales, or wherever. A little background can save or make your day.
