Hi all, I've recently purchased two Nelson Coconut chairs for Vitra. The seller wanted both gone, so even though I only needed one I bought the pair. The problem is that on still has the label while the other one does not. I selfishly want to keep the one with the label, but to be able to afford it I need to sell the other. Is there any way to ID the other as a genuine piece as opposed to a replica when I'm selling it? Any help would be appreciated!

Congrats on these fun chairs, Reamie. How likely are you to sell the one with labels? If not likely, maybe you can just keep the one with no label since you know for a fact it's an authentic piece. Another way to go about it is to take side by side pictures of the 2 while listing them and mention the identical nature of the 2 chairs with the exception of the labels. That way, buyers can visually tell there's no difference.
I'm not as familiar with Nelson design, but with Eames, many pieces no longer carry their lables but it's obvious enough to people what's authentic and what's fake. I've seen some really poorly executed coconut chairs on eBay so hopefully people can tell pretty easily. Good luck.

You could sell them both as a pair, since the one helps authenticate the other, and then turn around and just buy a single one somewhere else....

Thanks kin117 and Leif, both good ideas. I think I'll probably go with selling both together, as they were not a real bargain buy and as much as I would love to keep the unlabelled one and be happy with it I know myself too well, it would just irk me! I should have known better but my excitement got the better of me. I hope I'm not the only one that can rarely (if ever) pass up an opportunity to buy items like this without worrying about space or cost, even when I can't really afford them.......it's a real problem! Obviously a problem I'm ignoring on the whole as I keep doing it........

I got mine at a decent price. I think I saw the listing of your pair on eBay for a long time. I hope you didn't have to pay the asking price as it was quite steep.
In fact, I just got myself a womb chair set which may replace the coconut chair. Let me know if you're interested in seeing mine. In the meantime, enjoy the pair!!!

I got mine from a company that were upgrading their lounge area, along with some Vitra Visa lounge armchairs, I'd say I paid too much, 500 each. Eek. I can justify keeping one but the pair is too much. I love the womb chair! I'd love to see your chairs, that's what got me in this predicament! Ah well, you live and learn and I really wanted one of them! I'll put up pics once I have it in the right place.

Omg, now I'm super embarrassed to share how much I paid for mine which is A LOT more than both of yours combined!! $500 is a steal, isn't it?
The pair I saw on eBay was aking for $5800. Now I don't feel bad for you at all!!! Lol.

Oh god now I feel bad!! I'm in Europe and thought I paid way too much. I'm going to shut up now........it's such an addiction though isn't it? The money I paid for them was earmarked for a bill but that went by the wayside the minute I clapped eyes on the chairs!

Addiction? Most definitely. In the US, it's quite rare to see a coconut chair, except if you order new, so I don't mind paying a little more for it. Although most of the time I buy a chair with the intention of keeping but inevitably the collection or bank account needs a reset and I end up parting with some. It's part of the cycle. Fortunately, most of the time I come out ahead or, at the very least, break even. Though I'm not familiar with the European market, I feel pretty confident that you'll be able sell one or both your chairs with no problem as long as you're not trying to make a killing. Keep us posted.
