Hi All,
I have the below cane hanging chair and would like to know if this is an original by piece by Nanna Ditzel. I believe its produce by R. Wengler from the late 50s.I would appreciate it if any one can point me towards any links or literature to help me identify its origin.
Cheers
mike

The photos I reliably believe to be of an authentic chair show a metal hook at the top, which is quite different than your chair. I also believe there are difference in the weaving pattern around the edges, but the disparity in angles between your photos and the known authentic photos make it hard to say for certain.

Thanks for your post leif
During my research i keep seeing this metal hook along with the deference in the weave pattern. However this appears to be Attributed to the Italian production company Pierantonio Bonacina.
I was told my above chair was produce by R, Wengler, but i cant find pics or notes to confirm this. ah i will keep looking and hoping lol
Thanks mate

I am not sure I understand you comment. I pulled those photos from a pretty reliable source for Danish Modern: the danish furniture index:
https://aleph-01.kb.dk/F/978IG6PTLKGBFRATG2JU3HBAYU5651EA3N356B7X8M715RB...
So, those photos are definitely of the Ditzel designed, Wengler made chair. And I doubt that the production changed that much, as the physical connection to the hanging chair would be very integral to the design and structure. In other words that "little" difference is actually an enormous difference signifying a completely different structure to the chair. It is fairly unlikely that this happened.
Therefore, in my opinion your chair would not get the benefit of the doubt as to whether it is real. It has to be assumed to be a knock-off, and it would need to be proven that R. Wengler changed the design.
I am very sorry. I hope you did not invest too much in it.

Thanks for sending me the source link to your above post.
After following this link, along with your great points about the chair I was able to go back to the vender, and question their views to the origins of chair.
Im waiting to see their response along with there quoted source material from Noritsugu Oda “Danish Chairs”
I will keep you posted.
Cheers.

Another difference that stands out to me is the way the perimeter of the opening in your chair is woven. It has a strand of reed running parallel to the frame of the chair whereas the Ditzel chair doesn't.

Hi lief and Spanky
I received a response from the vender, that went a little something like this
"You may have a point, heres your money back to be sure if you want"
When I asked about there reference source that they quoted to me before i purchased the chair there was zero response. So i ask for my money back.
Now with the money back in my wallet and yet another lesson learned on the road of life, im having a pint of ale reflecting on what could have been.
Thanks agin for your help, enjoy your week end.
Cheers 😉
