Can anyone ID the fabric on this Folke Ohlsson chair? It was in a museum. They did not know. I love the 70's absract vibe of it. Unfortunately it had a sort of polyster synthetic smooth finish so I don't think if I'd actually use it. I think dog nails would snag it. But I'd love to know in case I change my mind!
I couldn't figure out what Folke Ohlsson chair that could be because the photo was so dark, so I saved it to my desktop and when I zoomed in on it, the sign on the chair says Folke Jansson. Ah...

There are a bunch of photos online of them done in that fabric so I would guess that it's original. They were first produced in the mid-50s. It is an unusual pattern from that time. Maybe they were in production for a long time and that fabric is from a later era but it seems like there'd be more of them out there if it was produced over a long period.
I have no idea what the fabric is.

I believe this type of fabric was also used by Artifort on designs by Theo Ruth, in the mid fifties. I would be interested to know if this is still being made..

Sorry Spanky. Yes, you are correct. I opened my mouth without rechecking the name on the label.
I covet this fabric. I have a hard time believing the piece I saw was original fabric. It was pristine. I think it's been redone which leads me to believe the fabric is still around. I'll do some more checking. Great design aside, it felt like a polyester suit material. If it comes from Denmark, it will probably be 400 bucks a yard.
I need to go look at Knoll's Arezzo fabric and see how it compares. It's an abstract tie dye, The colors are more hyped up. But it's got a similar kind of vibe to it.
I saw a number of examples of this chair and the matching sofa done in this fabric, so I am quite sure it's original. I saw one that was in a red & black colorway.
Ah...found this (translate from the Swedish)--these are probably the new productions of this chair.

HISTORY: Designed for the furniture fair in Gothenburg in 1955. Folke Jansson describes his furniture as "an ornate chair with three legs with no right angles." The idea of the furniture was to combine comfort with the look. The chair was later taken up into production in 1999 by Jonas Ihreborn.
