Hello all, I have just acquired this ball chair and am trying to figure out if it's an original Eero Aarnio or a reproduction. There are no markings on it that I can see, I've gone over it a good few times. I've seen similar online being called originals with no markings. The fabric seems to be wool, the body heavy. I think it's fibreglass. There is some loss around the edges and it has plenty of scratches. The ball part comes off the base. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've emailed Eero Aarnio but they have yet to get back to me.

Hi Aunt Mark, what I have done is search repeatedly, contact the company and question the person I bought it off. I have found no definitive or leading answers. I emailed two dealers who had a similar chair attributed to Eero Aarnio on 1st dibs and asked them (a) if there were any markings to look out for and (b) how have they attributed their chairs as originals. Is there anything else you would advise me to do?

Good morning Reamie!
Your homework will pay off, and you should have your answer soon. Keep up the good work!
Best,
Aunt Mark

Thanks Aunt Mark! I'm hoping Adelta get back to me, they do have a section dealing with real or fake and seem to encourage people to get in touch! I'm not sure if the 1st dibs dealers will be impressed though, I may not get a reply from them! There are a few dealers who may know if I brought it to them but I'm not trying to lift that heap for a long time, I'm still recovering from getting it home!

Reamie,
Mark he did exactly what I would do and consequently ask for advice. Adelta may or may not reply that your chair is... authentic. Congratulations.

Niceguy, for my own future reference, can I ask what are the indicators that highlight this as authentic?

Reamie,
I too am subject to correction, but I believe based on the authentic units I have seen and this photo of the Eero Aarnio Globe chair 1963-65 you have a winner. Please choose carefully the amount of work you do on this chair and the people you choose to do the work. There is no point in making the condition worse.
My next suggestion is to try to stay clear of project pieces. I have found it better (I did not heed the same advice and this is how I know) to save my money and buy better condition. I learned quickly. Negative numbers were cause for motivation.

Thank you so much for that photo, it's what I was searching for! I really need to start reigning myself in, however it's often a case of I see, I want!! I got it for a very reasonable price. My chair has definitely seen a long life, I'm going to try and get a few upholsterers quotes!

Reamie,
I am happy for you. My wife looked up (1963-65 images on google) as we spoke and she was impressed.
Please post photos of the completed chair.

Reamie,
I failed to mention bad language and bad attitude are motivators I occasionally find effective on marginal cases. You have gone from questions with minimum forethought on inane minutia of label detail to actual research on a classic product. It does work. A+
Or maybe as my wife says: most people have to get to know you better before they don't like you.
I remain pleased with your success.

So after ringing Adelta and getting a different, monitored email address I got a reply! Niceguy, you need no correction!!
