Dear addicts,
I have the opportunity to buy this easy chair for a very good price. The thing is that the seller lives far away so I have to decide judging on a few pictures. The one I am posting is by far the best I have...
Ok, I have done my homeworks and searched on a few websites including furnitureindex but could not find anything reliable.
I am thinking Grete Jalk for Poul Jeppesen and found a few dealers attributing it to Jalk as well.
What do you think?
Many thanks for your help!
Thanks a lot for your answer. Indeed, there are a lot of obvious differences with the chair we are both thinking of. Actually, I was thinking of Jalk / Jeppesen because the top of the back rest looks very much like the one from PJ 3-2 chairs I own.
Then the thing that is bothering me is that I have seen this armchair attributed to Grete Jalk (but without reference to a maker) on many dealers websites. All of them based in France.
I guess that might a danish style french chair or a model that was imported over here.
Ok, now I have to buy the chair if I want to find out more about it... 🙂
Thanks again Leif!
Finally bought and received the chair. So I am posting some better pictures hoping that someone can help me ID it...
For a bit of background: I bought it in France from a woman who was emptying a house she bought. The matching settee was also for sale. The interresting thing is that it comes from french deep countryside, a place where one would not expect to find this kind of piece.
I guess the wood is teak and upholstery is most probably original. The screw sur have hex socket and can be unscrew with Ikea key...
Thanks a million for any help!
Many thanks for identifying the wood, Leif. Your help Is always greatly appreciated.
I am very curious about this chair (there are also a 3 seater settee and a high back easy chair in the same range). It is rather easy to find on the internet with a Google search in french but I could not find anything searching in english or in danish... It doesn't look french at all!
Judging by the general design, construction, wood, etc. Would you say it is danish or scandinavian?
Needless to say, the chair is unmarked. I wouldn't ask otherwise...
Ok , call me obsessive but I don't give up that easily on unsuccessfull ID request.
After a few month of loose research, I found somebody selling the same easy chair who still had the original invoice. I contacted him hoping he could help and managed to get a date of purchase (1966) and the name and adress of the shop where the easy chair was bought back then.
Incredibly enough, the shop still exists. So I contacted them and asked if by any chance they could tell me more about the chair (brand, country of origin, anythink...). Honestly, I really did not think they would answer as we are talking about a chair they were selling some 50 years ago... Well, I got an answer today!
Althought the shop owner remember this model well, he is unsure of the brand, either Samcom or Fraska. They even sent me a scan of one of their 1964 ad as a proof!
Samcom was a french importer of danish furniture and it believe that Fraska was one of their subdivision for seats. I am now pretty sure my easy chair is danish. Samcom is known over here for importing Johannes Andersen pieces for Uldum Mobelfabrik. Do you believe this chair could have been produced by Uldum?
Alternatively, I found a few old ads from Samcom online that I am posting here. I would be very grateful if someone could help identifying the brands presented on these ads. That could be a lead...
Many thanks for any help!
