Looking for more definitive information on this chair, commonly attributed to Jalk. Thanks very much.

Someone posted one of these on Instagram a few months ago, and the overall consensus was that the chair is not Jalk. At the time, I looked through multiple period catalogs with Jalk chairs and did not see this one in any of the Catalogs or books in my collection. People were leaning towards Plycraft, Mulhauser or another American maker. Then someone else chimed in that they had purchased one in Europe (which doesn't necessarily mean that its not American) So, I fairly confident that the Jalk attribution is bogus (questionable at best), but I don't have anything else to offer

Thanks jesgord... That is my sentiment as well. It's a bit too refined for Plycraft, but doesn't strike me as Jalk or other Danish / Scandinavian. The stance is similar to the GJ chair but that just be coincidence or copying. Hope others can chime in as well.

I would start with trying to find a marked specimen, and I can't seem to find one. I would also try to figure out where where it was made by looking at the little things that nobody likes to photograph.
Do you have one that you can take photos of?

@lief- I don't have a chair, was just curious. There are some high-res photos available online. The wood itself looks like something American. The curved slats supporting the back are similar to other Jalk designs.

Well, not super hi-res, but larger photos with some zoom on the 1stdibs link.

Hmmmm...interesting.
I bought one, unidentified, off craigslist a couple years ago, and was told Jalk by someone here. (I'd guessed Plycraft, myself!)
At the time, it was not phrased as unconfirmed.
Now, looking for confirmation, I end up back here....

So with an actual chair in hand, you can now upload detail photos of the chair for group review. There are a few here who should be able to ID the wood with a some good close ups.

Any of these work for anyone with wood knowledge?
I can photograph details as well for those who want to see them....

Let's see more photos. Larger and sharper would be helpful.

You can click to embiggen, Lief--they are as large as the site allows....
As for sharpness, I'll try a few more--you wanna see wood grain, or something else? It'll have to be tomorrow when natural light returns...

I will always look at more photos of this chair. But I finally feel confident in saying what wood that is: mahogany.
