Ok, I need help.
I have this gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood game table. And I have no clue what country it might have been made in, what company or cabinet maker might have made it, much less who might designed it.
It is a gorgeous enigma. I would take any help or insight anyone can offer, because I am totally lost.
The frame is solid rosewood, even the corner brackets, and of course the edge banding around the top. The box matched veneer is also a rosewood, much lighter than the rest. I believe the frame rosewood is Brazilan Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra), because it looks right and makes sense. I am not sure the box matched Rosewood veneer is Dalbergia nigra, although it is within the possible color range. (I thought it might be Cocobolo, but I am allergic to Cocobolo, and not allergic to this rosewood).
The leather side is leather not vinyl.
Thoughts anyone?

I have found a similar Brazilian table by Sergio Rodrigues... (Actually cdsilva found it, and I owe it to him that I even own this table).

And I've found a similar Italian table, advertised as by Gio Ponti....

I personally think it looks very Norwegian, but I've got nothing to back that up...

The amount of Rosewood used to built it is impressive. And it has two hanger bolts at each corner, which is unusual.

And it has very thin, delicate looking legs that are canted slightly outwards.

Leif,
Funny you mentioned Norway; that is the first place I went looking! Like you, I have no idea why I went down
that route. As you say, a lot of lovely rosewood.
Lexi.

The height of the table is 28 1/2 inches, which is normal dining table height. So the slenderness of the legs is really surprising and noticeable. When my wife say it she said, "I love how thin the legs are, let's get it."
Measured the bottoms of the legs, and they are ~2/3 of an inch. Very thin.

And here is the leg of my desk, which is fairly representative of the "expected" diameter: 1 3/8 inches

No idea but I just wanted to say it's so awesome I'm feeling envy bordering on contempt.
Congrats it's a righteous piece.

I actually have a point here: --This design can not be built in teak.-- If it were, the legs would break during normal use.
Almost universally Danish/Scandinavian factory makers (the 'møbelfabriks', the ones who were often part of the Danish Furniture Control club) offered designs in teak (or teak/oak) with a rosewood option for more money. These designs were not offered in rosewood alone. It just was not part of the business model.
Conclusion: this table is not a Danish/Scandinavian factory made piece.
The only Danish/Scandinavian makers I can think of who might have offered designs only in some specific wood, like Rosewood, were the cabinetmakers ('snedkermesters), the sort of makers who participated in the cabinet makers' exhibitions (Johannes Hansen, Niels Vodder, A.J. Iversen, Willy Beck, Gustav Bertelsen, etc, etc).
Or this table is from some other country/region where it could be normal to offer a design in only Rosewood. I don't know where that would be. Brazil maybe? Or maybe Holland, Belgium, France, Italy? I just don't know. Thoughts?
edit: retrolampguy: you posted while I was writing. I understand the envy bordering on contempt. I don't even like rosewood much, and I love this table. My envy of the unknown person who can tell me more about it borders on contempt.
