I can't say for sure-but I think those are legit Juhl 133 chairs that have been hacked by an over zealous upholsterer. Grandma probably wanted them to look "more traditional" and had the arms and back upholstered. If I saw those in a thrift shop I'd pick them up without giving it a second thought
This seems to be a good thread for vintage Spade Chair replicas.
While there are plenty of recent Chinese knockoffs, I just came across this pair of chairs that appear to be vintage replicas. If only the first photo was in the listing, I might have jumped at a low asking price. However subsequent photos show an odd decision by the manufacturer that make it clear that it is a knockoff.
Certainly the joints and quality are clues, but why on earth would they decide to do that zigzag loop spring layout rather than the usual parallel layout. Not only does it look weird, but it would seem to cause more problems (e.g. quicker wear from overlapping springs, deeper grooves required, odd-sized spring lengths, etc.) without providing any cost or production benefit.
And the most obvious question: if you are making a knockoff, why incorporate such a glaring tell that grabs your eye almost instantly?
$1300, plus juice and tax for a pair of knockoffs:
