Hi,
I received an eames chair lounge from an old relative a few years ago. I'm not sure if it's real though.
It doesn't appear to have any herman miller stickers on the bottom of it, but it does have some staple marks with some ripped paper.
I know it's been around for awhile though (20+ years). The leather is in great condition, but it appears to have been refurbished.
Behind the head rest, the cushion piece lifts up and exposes a wood panel stamped "1971". The screws on the inside have England engraved on them.
The sides of the chair have 2 screws, but the wood is continuous. (I'm thinking they might have been added from the refurbishing).
Does anyone know if these chairs were ever made in England? Does this seem like an authentic eames or just an old replica?
Anything would help. Thanks!
Hille were official licensees for the lounge chair in Britain around 1971, so there's a good chance your chair is a Hille production. See http://www.scotthoward.co.uk/hille.html for more info and a groovy Hille ad.
