Hi,I am wondering if you could help me identify the approximate year that my chairs were made. These chairs have fiberglass rope all around the edge. I understand that later models deleted this feature due to cost.I believe they are the SAX model. Here's a photo of the label on the chairs: Thanks!!

Hi,
This label  is  more rare than the checkerborard label, and used only for a short time towards the end of the rope edge time frame. Could be anywhere from 1952 to 1953.
If the generally accepted time frame is from 1949 to 1953 for the rope shells, then closer to 1953. Specific dates are always going to be hard to nail down.
The general consensus for rope shells can run anywhere from 1949 to 1953 (or even 1954 by some accounts on "Eamesdesigns". The "half label" shells came towards the end of that time frame, as Herman Miller took over.
Others here have pointed this out if you want to do some digging in the archives.

Eameshead has hit it on the nose with the production date on this Eames Fiberglass shell chair.
I like the new website design.
