Response from website owner/producer
Hello, I am the owner and producer of the website in question, and I came across this discussion via my webstats for yesterday. The person who placed the link in the first post above is completely unknown to me, and neither I nor anyone else on my behalf has ever posted a single word about the site on this or any other forum. However, I believe it is fair and appropriate for me to respond directly to some of the comments made here. The reason I charge for access to the full-sized versions of the adverts on the site is to recoup some of the extremely large costs I have incurred in producing the site, both in acquiring the original magazines from which the ads have been scanned - many extremely rare and very expensive, including some of the earliest editions of Mobilia magazine and the final editions of its now almost completely forgotten predecessor Møbler, which I have never seen available anywhere else - and in the hundreds of hours I have spent scanning the adverts and building the site. Yes, decopedia is free, but it is just a collation of attributions (many incorrect) gathered from secondary sources of varying reliability across the internet and its own dealer clients. My site, by comparison, uses only primary sources in the form of the original product advertisements. Its value to collectors and dealers therefore lies both in its reliability and in the fact that it offers views of the products as they were when they were first produced, complete with original fabrics and finishes. Not everyone will want or need this kind of resource, but for those who do I believe the subscription (at a fraction of the price of a single issue of the aforementioned rare magazines) is a fair price to pay for the unique material it gives access to. Thank you for the opportunity to respond. Julia
