Does anyone know who made this mushroom shaped piece. It's solid, heavy and well built, vertical ribs made of heavy gauge steel rods. Seat has a plywood base, fit's neatly into the frame. No identfing markings. Can anyone share any information anything will help, Thank you in advance.

Arthur Umanoff made some lamps that were very similar
see a pic of one down in the linked thread. I don't see any evidence that his rod work was ever plated but it's worth the look. correction: Tony Paul (thanks straylight)

It was made by Contemporary Shell Inc.
Probably very late 70ties or early 80ties. Contemporary Shell Inc was based in Hempstead NY and produced works for many designers including Arthur Umanoff. Don't know if this stool was one of his designs but can't rule it out. One big difference between this stool and an original Knoll is in the chrome work. I am fairly certain all the Knoll products were polished stainless steel. The Contemporary Shell stools have a thin chrome plate which will peel off, especially around the foot ring. Will have to say these stools are heavy and if yours has no issues on the ring I would suggest protecting it with a clear strip of tubing to keep it from eventual discoloration and peeling.
By the way, the set that is from the LiveAuctioneers listing sold for $2600.

Thanks
I already had the patents in my Umanoff database but they are so late in his career I really hadn't looked at them yet.
