Hi, I am exhausted from trawling books and online images and hoping that someone will be able to help me id these chairs. Everything about them is excellent quality and their construction suggests late 1950s to early 1960s. I was convinced Robin Day, but can find no resource or archive image to confirm this. Any help greatly appreciated obviously. Thanks so much 🙂

Chair ID
Your chair looks very much like the 675 chair by Robin Day for Hille (see link). The proportions of the frame and seat pad lend itself to the 675, however the seat back/arm rests do not. If you compare carefully the seat back/arm rests on your chair to that of the chair via the link - irrespective of the fact that your back/arm rests are upholstered - you will see a number of differences, including shape and how the arm rests are attached to the frame. Perhaps you do have a 675 chair which has been crudely upholstered at some point - but the chrome frame is not consistent with original examples of this chair which usually have a dark (black/grey) 'stove-enamelled' finished.

Thanks for the reply - I...
Thanks for the reply - I have been going back and back to the 675 for months as I keep re-researching. I do see lots of similarities, and the quality is what I would expect from a RD - if not better. The upholstery is really, really well done - albeit in super soft vinyl. I follow your blog chairsmith, so was going to post you directly, but didn't like to 'bother' you - plus in the middle of the night, trawiling images (as I so often find myself these days) I think I'd have struggled to word an appropriate message to accompany my [plea for help] enquiry.
I have a ref' book for Robin Day, but it's pretty basic/mainstream so no joy there. Am planning to take in the exhibition as soon as I can get it together to do so - maybe there's an archive that I haven't managed to find yet. Thanks again 🙂
