I'm interested in purchasing one of these tables. I was told by an antiques dealer that these table tops were never made of solid wood but always a veneer. (He has the veneered variety, of course.) I find this difficult to believe but then I didn't realize Frank Lloyd Wright used plywood in his furniture designs either. Can someone give me information concerning this statement, please.

I have never seen anything but veneer topped Mathsson Maria tables. And I seriously doubt there has ever been a solid wood topped one manufactured. It is not a design that lends itself to execution in solid wood.

I agree with Leif.
We have one that has the curly birch veneer, and it is very old, possibly a prototype.
