Hello,
Just found this site while attempting to ID this chair. I really like the site and look forward to spending more time here in the future.
I would appreciate any information helping to identify this chair. (I'll try to attach pics below.) It has a sculpted or molded seat, bent plywood legs, arms and backrest supports. It has a paper tag, lists the catalog number, 1638, but no manufacturer. I belief the seat is hardwood, possibly birch or maple. The arms and backrest have a coaser grain, more like ash. It is assembled with large Phillips head screws. I found a number stamped into the leg, possibly a serial number.
Thanks to everyone for taking time to look at this,
Fairdeal

Yes, probably Thonet
built like a tank! Thonet never lacks for screws.

Thanks to all, plus...
Thank you to all that have taken the time to look at these chairs and offer their opinions as to their origin. The chairs are very, very sturdy, but still very comfortable. I'm adding close up pics of the tag and the number stamped into the leg. Would there be any way to check these numbers in a Thonet catalog or design source?
Thanks again for everyones time,
Fairdeal

For what
it's worth, I wouldn't refer to these as "bent plywood chairs," because bent plywood is not the major material used. (The arms are not plywood, despite your description.) They might be called "armchairs of solid wood and plywood."
