Hey all. Found this today and am a bit stumped. Looks like some American knockoff of a Sven Ivar Dysthe design? The pocket screws, etc. Have only found one other, which appears to be in Teak, but it's only an image and I can't find the actual link to it. This looks like Oak to me, but could it be stained Teak? I'm thinking not, because the plywood back appears to be Walnut. So I'm guessing a Walnut finish on the chair frame. Hmmm. It's comfortable, just needs refinished. Any ideas are super. Thanks.

At a guess I'd say the back is walnut, and the frame is stained elm.

Elm. Gotcha. Those other woods never jump out at me, but I guess when I do actually look at pictures, like right now, the figuring is more elaborate on Elm, eh? Thanks.

Well, the image is too far out to say for certain. Elm is very easy to spot up close. It has zig-zags in the grain like none other. For instance, the lighter wood in Lane Acclaim series pieces is stained Elm.

I'm just now realizing it only uploaded one image. Dammit.

Well now that I see some closer shots, the I don't think it is elm. Not really sure what it is. Something with very open grain like oak. Maybe Ash, Hickory, Oak. Don't know.
The pocket hole joints with Phillips head screws and that piece of hardware to adjust the tilt angle very much remind me of Thayer Coggin. The styling is also quite plausible for the designer who collaborated with Thayer Coggin.

Yeah... I purchased this at a country sale an hour away without having seen it in person. From this first picture I was given, I sorta guessed it was a Thayer Coggin chair. Hmmm. The second picture appears to be the same model in Teak.

I'd say that furnishmevintage one is walnut.

Really? Hmmm. You are making me second-guess myself at every turn here.

Heh... perhaps one day I'll know something you don't. I just called furnishmevintage and they said they had no idea and then they tried to sell me other chairs. Oh well.

As to the styling... it strikes me as weird that any known designer would blatantly copy another (not named Pearsall, anyway, that I'm aware of). Are there any other instances where his design so closely imitates another's?

Most certainly. Take a look at his Octa-Loungers.

I've seen those (and the thread about yours). I guess I didn't notice any striking resemblances to other chairs, but again I am not as learned as most here. I will re-consult that thread.
