There is no such thing as a "poor man's BMW", but many poor men drive BMW's.
fondly,
Aunt Mark

I am curious to see the current/valid title of this car and if it is actually registered under Make/Model as
"BMW PROTOTYPE".

I wanted to be Faye Dunaway in the Thomas Crown Affair.
I did.
Best,
Aunt NART

Mark, I met a guy that tried to buy McQueen's car, but bid too low. He got the next one that came up, though. His wife equates it to their third child.
If I had a kid worth that much, I'd sell her.

HowardMoon for the win!
Grand prize: an honorary Mahogany Association number issued in your name, inscribed on a plaque hand carved by a horny old dude in his garage, in the shape of a rare BMW prototype worth $30,000,000 (the car, not the plaque---the plaque is only worth $30,000).
Cdsilva, you'll get a mention somewhere in the plaque, of course.

100% early Chris Bangle BMW prototype. The Mitsubishi logos are simply camouflage they used to disguise it from the public during pre-production. This is a very common tactic you see before tradeshows for new models.
A few have popped up on 1stdibs over the years.

Also, cdsilva, you didn't say if the owner inherited it from his parents who worked for BMW in the early years and were given factory seconds and prototypes as gifts? Because that could be a major clue in this mystery.

Make damn sure the front seat doubles as a comfortable reading chair before you go making any offers on the car!! Just my two cents.

What?! I am outraged. This board should be for serious design discussion ONLY. I'm leaving and never coming back.

Me too! Bhahahahahaha!
Now I'm starting to question my recent Ford Granada station wagon purchase. It's a beast. Could it possibly be a Mercedes Benz prototype instead?
hmmmm....

cdsilva,
I believed you were serious. I am so very glad that you are not mentally challenged.
Trans-imbecilic (a person who is not born an imbecile but desires to become an imbecile later in life) HouseKebab makes any outrageous statement on this forum possible.
I accept provocation comes unfortunately easy.

No need to explain, Mark. I'm a station wagon guy from way back. Me grok.
Besides, it's just easier sometimes to embrace our inner soccer mom rather than fight it.
But that AMG badge... OMG!
P.S. Me mum had a Maverick back in the day.

niceguy, I am unfortunately on the opposite end of the spectrum where desire to provoke comes too easily.
And for those used to the old site where the right-click "Inspect element" command came in handy, you'll notice that the file of the initial image has "Mitsubishi-Diamante" in the name.
