I have asked numerous people and have gotten the same response. They are real. I am still not convinced since no one can produce any physical evidence. Now I turn to you guys to see if you can help. The story goes, so I've been told, that Bertoia originally designed the side chair with a double wire perimeter but because of copyright infringement issues with the Eames' changed the chair to a single wire. I know I'm leaving a lot out of the story but I wanted to keep it brief. So, are these real? Is there any documented proof to back the story up?

These look odd to me, because the shape of the shell looks more like contemporary Knoll production rather than vintage (particularly, the more reclined angle of the back). I have seen a few photos of the vintage double-wire chairs before, and the shape is identical to the vintage single-wire.
hy there first time im getting on this forum
i did see that this seems to be a fake much to shiny, becouse the only original double wires are about 50 years old and they would, 1 not be this crisp also not this thin wired, two these are now been remade as bertoia style chairs with the double wire see the net for the hords of fake bertoia chairs sold on Chinese websites many of them have this glossy paint and are double wired, also the original old double wired ones had only one type of fitting to the base the flat thick long metal bar rounded edges.
i know that there are many diff types of connecting the seat to the feet.
belgium decoene production of knoll had a flat long Barr on each side or two small flat round edged bars across on each side, while this changed to be the round bared attachment in all modern knoll
also the wire changed from double wired that was given up after a lawsuit was made by charles because the chair of his who bertioa had worked with eames on designing it also had a double wire frame see eames wire side chair.
then there was wires on top this was not ok for clothes and stockings the the wires moved under the frame
tha last picture is from an old knol sales catalogue 1955 where the double wired side chair still is shown
Hi bertoiabarn, thank your for the reponse. Great resource material! The reason for the new appearance to the finish is because I recently had them powder coated. When I purchased them they were spray painted green over white and definitely showed some age. I bought them from a friend who bought them from a lady who said she bought them in the 60's. Who knows if my second hand information is true though. Also I have been told that all reproduction bases where never made identical to the original Bertoia bases. Is it possible that the seats are reproductions and the bases original?
