Please see photos. Would appreciate any light you can shed on this item. I am planning on sanding the varnish and damaged areas back so that I can re-varnish and make the item look new. I know I need to be mindful not to sand the veneer too much.
Photo shows flat head slot screws, metal capped feet. There is a "imported furniture" stamp on the back. There is a number 5 stamped on the back of all drawers.
What is really bemusing me is that this is clearly a ladies dresser but the under desk clearance is only 50cm so a standard size chair only just fits underneath the desk. Most desks are 70cm high to allow your legs to fit under when seated. It is impossible to get your legs under this item when seated and get close to the vanity mirror for doing make up etc. Is this common in mid-century or any other particular design. Don't know if this is a clue to its provenance.
Thanks,
