Hi all, long time browser first time poster. Hope someone can help with this piece.

Recently purchased in Denmark, some of its features point me towards one designer but other features point me to another.

Be interesting to see what you all think. Hopefully I'll be able to help someone else in return one day.

Ed

Any marks or labels? Some of the features on this chair are rather awkward, which suggests to me perhaps a later production inspired by other designs.

Hi Woodywood, No marks or labels. Interesting how you think some features are awkward - what in particular strikes you as such?
The only other clue I had was that it came from a household which was furnished, to completion in the 1950's and was purchased at the same time with two Finn Juhl sofas. (Not suggesting at all that the chair is Finn Juhl but of similar pedigree perhaps)
I've got a feeling it might have been a prototype or work by an apprentice to a known designer.

Which two Finn Juhl sofas? And what year was this as precisely a you can state. Sometimes everything is in the details.....
I think the plug on the back hiding the screw that holds on the backrest is a bit awkward. Other than that I think it is fantastic.

Hi Leif,
Pretty sure they were BO55 2 seater sofas. Only had a glance at the photos before the dealer whisked them away to other lands. They'll probably turn up on Lauritz or Bruun Rasmussen soon - watch for a pair of yellow wool pieces.
I know the chair has been reupholstered, originally it was in black leather thus perhaps, the replacement of the plugs on the rear - my figuring was that should have been flush.... but... these photos, from something recognisable around the same year got me thinking.

Well it is not a Wanscher; the rear legs don't curve back, for one thing.
It is the simple fact that there are plugs there, flush or not, that is awkward for me.
I have no idea what you mean about pedigree, but there is a lot of Wegner's Chinese chairs in this design. And this is not a Wegner.

Mainly for me, the top half and bottom half of the chair do not seem to go together aesthetically. Also the joinery in the arms is not the greatest (from what I can tell).
