I've had these chairs in storage for several years with a view to finally getting them stripped and reupholstered. The current upholstery is not original, although the work was undertaken with exceptional skill. The chairs themselves are also exceptional quality - this is part of the reason I have shied away from dealing with them. Oh, that and the fact that after returning to a search for a designer/manufacturer numerous times over the years.....so far I am none the wiser. I bought these in England, which in itself doesn't necessarily mean that they are British, but I wonder if it does mean that it's very unlikely that the are Dunbar or one of the US manufacturers making similarly beautiful lounge chairs in t he 50s & 60s.
Pay no attention to the wood frames which have been varnished in a horrible red-toned shiny gloop, this has come off nicely to reveal beautifully grained solid teak. The teak arms attach via a brass 'key hole' click & slide and everything about them screams top quality....only whose?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - they are not in any studio year book and I may have broken Google.
