| i've been looking to replace a floor mounted Tom dixon mirror ball light (beware they dont last long) with something else... A local furniture shop who used to have a Flos account still have a "Taccia" light in stock, the over the course of a couple years of repeated interest i've got the guy down to £450 from the asking price of £950 (he knows he will never be able to sell it from that site for top price) but i'm wondering if i can really use it as a floor light? obivously there is the issue of the glass bowl becoming broken being at floor level but it is o ... | |||||
| Dilemma on Eames Lounge Chairs | 2 Relevance | 13 years ago | kin1117 | General discussion | |
| Hope everyone had a wonderful time with family over Thanksgiving. I have a dilemma for which I'd like to hear you opinion. As we're making space for our baby, I'm going to have to sell one of my 670/671 sets. I've narrowed it down to 2 choices: The first is a recent production (Dec, 2010) in black stock leather and Santos Palisander in mint condition. The second one is also black leather but rosewood from the 70's in good condition minus some minor chipping around the edges. Normally it'd be a no brainer because Rosewood wins hands down and the leather back ... | |||||
| Good Chair for Office Armoire Dilemma | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| I purchased an office armoire like the one pictured below. I just realized, since the desk "folds up", it looks kind of weird with a big office chair sitting in front of it. What kind of chair would look good here? Maybe some chair I can keep at the side of the armoire against a wall? Or a nice folding chair (if it exists) that I can store under the armoire. Or should I get a Eames Group Side chair.... Any thoughts on my chair dilemma? | |||||
| Curb Side Pickup Knoll/Saarinen chairs-dilemma | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | Juleshsmith | General discussion | |
| Found 4 Knoll/Saarinen executive chairs on a curb side pickup (or as we say in Australia, 'hard rubbish collection')about 4 years ago. Faced with the dilemma do I re-upholster them or not. The one shown is probably the best. The others have moth damage etc... These are really rare in Australia, and I would like to keep them, I just wouldn't know where to start with what fabric/what colour etc etc. I have two questions. Firstly, they have the Knoll label on the bottom but there is no date on the label. Is there anyway to date these chairs? Secondly, does the ... | |||||
| Jacobsen Swan Chair dilemma. Still searching for answers... | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | Juleshsmith | General discussion | |
| Hi world. Have a really curious dilemma. I have what appears to be a 1960s Swan chair. Originally in orange wool upholstery. Here's the issue, the base is made by "Ring Mobelfabrikk" (Norway), who I understand supplied bases to the European Herman Miller (Charles Eames) factory in the late 50s/60s. It's very similar to the base used on the Eames (executive) time life lobby chair (also made by Ring Mobelfabrikk) and the Eames aluminum series of chairs and swivel chairs. (google Eames time life chair) Can anyone tell me how a Charles Eames/ Herman Miller base ... | |||||
| A bit of a frustrating color dilemma | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| ... decided to paint the inside of this channel a bright sunflower orange/yellow. In and of itself it's a nice color, but it's a bit strong and unflattering for applying cosmetics. (hey, I'm a girl, these things matter) Add to this the strong clear southwestern light and the row of hollywood lighting at the base of the well right over the mirror and you have a pretty harsh view! I have considered changing to GE Reveal bulbs but I think I'll just end up with a green light versus a yellow one and that would be worse! Painting is really out of the question. It wo ... | |||||
| Dilemma about positioning of art... | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | Cloudburst2000 | General discussion | |
| Hey again, I'm moving these art pieces out of the dining area and into the living room. I'm going to be placing them above the fireplace. However, I live in a very old house ,100+ years old. Anyhoo, if you look closely at the picture below, you can tell that the fireplace is not exactly centered in the wall. The fireplace is basically flush on the left side where the wall dips back, but on the right side, there is approximately an inch of wall before the wall dips back. So my dilemma is should I center the pieces by centering them on the wall or should ... | |||||
| Yeah, the flatware dilemma | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| Yeah, the flatware dilemma Some of the most beautiful flatware is awful to use. Friends have had a set for 30+ years that I think they got at Crate & Barrel back when it was mostly Danish designs. I don't know the designer but the handles are very heavy and they always fall off the plates when clearing the table. Very annoying. I have had the Paul Revere pattern by Oneida Community Stainless for just as long. I would like to have something more stylish looking (though there are many that are less stylish) but it's so perfect otherwise that I'm sticking w ... | |||||

| That's my dilemma I have a funny feeling i'll be outbid. I've had a disasterous time recently. Missed out on a Knoll 116 Sideboard. Then - and this is the one that smarts the most - I got stuck on the road and due to my crap Blackberry, missed out on 5 Juhl diplomat chairs on eBay. They went for £300. That then upset me enough to forget to bid on something else ending shortly after... Oh well, all fun and games 🙂 | |||||

| ... chosen the most expensive fabric on earth. I know everyone will have their own opinion but I just need to brain storm... I'm not sure if we are allowed to discuss cost here so hypothetically if the chairs were going to cost, let's say AU$1K ($500 for fabric alone) to reupholster in this fabric, am I 'over-capitalising'? I'm sure it's all about what's important to me, but I'm not really really precious about these chairs (they were found on a curb-side rubbish collection and have no sentimentality to me). Saying that, I do plan to keep them as they are indee ... | |||||

| Olive/coffee table dilemma Hi Olive, After reading your posted message about wanting a Noguchi table, I say, Go for it! I have a Noguchi coffee table & it is very beautiful in my space & I like the sculptural quality of the base. Just keep in mind it's a fairly large piece of glass in case your space is limited. | |||||
| Here is my dilemma... | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Here is my dilemma... It's an early Evans production DCW with 5-2-5 bolt config. It was purchased without seeing it in person from an auction house that specializes in traditional antiques. They listed the chair as rosewood. Some days it looks rosewood (especially the underside), some days it looks walnut and some days teak. I know they experimented with more exotic woods in the early days so I'm just not sure. Thanks to everyone who's thrown in their 2 cents. Any additional insights would be appreciated. | |||||

| Old thread, new dilemma So, having read this in its entirety, is there any other way to tell an Aram from a knockoff besides the presence of the little knob on the top of the chrome piece that comes out of the glass? I have a chance to buy a pair from a person who has owned them for three years who bought them in the UK off of UK-ebay and paid over 500 pounds. Would there be any other markings that anyone knows about? | |||||
| That IS a dilemma-- you need such a large set | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | william-holden-... | General discussion | |
| That IS a dilemma-- you need such a large set Which almost rules out the idea of putting together a set of vintage flatware-- it could take years to accumulate a service for twelve, unless you can find an Ebay seller with an enormous set of a pattern you like. Ebay sellers usually sell desirable patterns piecemeal, though, to get the best possible price. I was just looking at some (new) tasty-looking Carl Pott stainless flatware, but the prices are ABSURD-- $225 for a five piece setting! Dansk makes some decent looking stuff-- depending on the pattern, it s ... | |||||

| I understand the dilemma. I... I understand the dilemma. I used to live in Mississippi! It can be hard to find vintage pieces, and shipping can be way more than the price of the pieces you are buying. I think the aesthetic of the pieces are ok at best. They are a bit busy to my eye, and I don't love the hardware. BUT - if they are well made they certainly beat the big box furniture store crap you can buy at 4 times the price. The price of these is CHEEEAAAP! Not every piece can be your favorite. Good luck. | |||||
