| It's not difficult to explain. I'm 58 and I've always seen Eames Fiberglass chairs - both arm and side versions since my childhood....they were introduced when I was very young. I think it's the post war (WWII) mentality of casual, modern living that made these non-upholstered chairs attractive, coupled with the 'new' modern colors that were popular in those days. They were easy to clean and they are comfortable it sit on. They were especially popular in public spaces, churches and schools. I don't remember seeing them in people's homes (I live in a much m ... | |||||

| difficult The desk is really a very nice desk but I am inclined to say NOT danish. The drawer handles is what gives me that impression but without having a really good close look around the desk I would not be able to say for certain. Still a very stylish vay of grating the drawer supports and legs and a desk that will grace any home. Give it a good clean with teak oil and enjoy. Simon | |||||

| I agree that it is difficult to make the right choices... But we cannot and should not hold out hope for right choices ever to become absolutely certainly clear. It was not absolutely certain that FDR should ignore the signal intelligence that the Japanese fleet was going to attack Pearl Harbor, regardless of what motive one attaches to the decision to ignore the signals and to avoid informing Admiral Kimmel in command of Pearl Harbor entirely. Some say FDR was trying to contrive a war with Japan to justify a war with its ally, Nazi Germany. Some say it was ... | |||||

| It is difficult to be sure, but it probably doesn't matter. I bought an Eames plastic side chair with the Eifel base on eBay and the light blue shell has the Vitra imprint (in keeping with the original auction ad), so the shell is right. However, the very sturdy, beautifully made Eifel base is not automatically real or original. it probably is, but none of the bases have any marks, so it could've been a marriage. Bottom line, it works, looks good and is 100% sturdy, so I'm happy...but it's very difficult to substantiate it's proper vintage and maker. | |||||
| I once dismantled an aluminum group chair, | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | william-holden-... | General discussion | |
| I once dismantled an aluminum group chair, scrubbed the dirty upholstery, then reassembled it (I've always had a devil-may-care attitude with cheap thrift store finds). This was ages ago and the chair's long gone, but I recall the reassembly being relatively easy-- the upholstery panel was held on by a multitude of small pins on both sides, folded over, and then fastened to the two spool devices at each end. Required dexterity, but not insanely difficult. That said, I see no reason the pad can't be reattached facing the opposite direction (or, "flipped"). | |||||

| If the surface is rough and difficult, then I'd lightly sand all the surfaces with a fine sandpaper and either put a light polyeurathane finish or wax it with Howard Feed N Wax. Then, for maintainance, I recommend Howard Feed N Wax, which is a marvelous beeswax and orange oil product that really protects the wood. I use it on all of my wood furniture. It's great. | |||||

| It's difficult to put down roots | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | Big Television Man | General discussion | |
| It's difficult to put down roots when your home is on wheels. 🙂 Social issues aside. You might also want to consider that if you are talking about so called "single wides" arrayed in a u shape courtyard configuration, the individual wings are whatever the allowable over the highway width is. What could that be, maybe 10 feet. It would be like living in three long narrow coffins. 🙂 No thanks. They are also notoriously difficult to insure as fire rips through them in a flash. | |||||
