| Differences The chair in your Ebay link is a Herman Miller. Common, easy-to-spot differences between it and most replicas: 1. The screws holding the arms to the shell. As far as I know, all the replicas have those screws, even though HM's patent on the shockmounts ran out years ago. 2. The base. Replica bases often look VERY different from the HM base, with a different number/shape/finish of the spokes, different feet and glides, swivel/tilt rather than just swivel, or a square-plate attachment to the seat/ottoman. 3. The back supports. Replicas often hav ... | |||||
| Jesgord, I was simply drawing the differences | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| Jesgord, I was simply drawing the differences between the real Herman Miller benches and the knockoffs, in terms of quality...nothing more! I only brought up the moral/legal issue because whenever anyone discusses the knockoffs, there's a whole separate conversation about is it right or not. I was only trying to say - setting aside the moral/legal issue - that my experiences comparing the quality of the real ones compared to the fake ones suggest tha real ones are 100% better made. I wouldn't want to stand up on the fake one I have (I bought it merely as a ... | |||||
| The significant differences | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| The significant differences -as explained above: quality of manufacture; quality of labor used; and the already-expended energy used to create secondhand knock-offs. Instead of third world materials; slave labor; and a huge amount of expended energy in both manufacture and also in transporting them halfway around the globe. And before you jump back about the copyright issues you should peruse the forum as those have been addressed myriad times before. | |||||

| Disagree I must respectfully disagree with you Whitespike - Arial is the Wal-Mart version of Helvetica, ripped off by Microsoft to avoid paying royalties. (see below) Verdana is a brilliant font specifically in it's complete lack of character. Matthew Carter is the last and the best of the old guard typographers, and possibly the best living typographer today. His professional career has spanned the transition from relief print into flat print (lithography, etc) into digital, and he is one of the first people to recognize the distinct differences between s ... | |||||
| Vitra and HM differences | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | baked | General discussion | |
| Vitra and HM differences Speaking of the base, the Vitra 670/671 chair base and back/headrest rest bars also has a color option not available with the HM version. With Vitra, you can get the base/back rest bars as black sides/metalic top, or in an all metallic color. Personally I feel the second option does not look so good. The leather used with the Vitra version is aniline leather. I am not sure if this is also true of HM leather and the Edelman range they offer. My personal opinion is that with the HM version (recent productions) the chair cushions fee ... | |||||

| celebrate the [color] differences i personally like a black / brown mix; i'm much more bothered when there's an attempt to match two different browns or blacks [or any color for that matter] but they're a bit more than slightly off. i think it has to do with unity versus uniformity. there can be great individual diversity explored while still achieving unity. i find this much more interesting and fulfilling than everything "matching" in both form and surface. the variety offers depth and breadth unachieved by too much sameness. | |||||

| lots of differences between t... lots of differences between the HM and vitra chairs. i've owned a Vitra Lounge Chair, but dind't like it and sold it. About a year ago i bought a new HM lounge chair and i like it much better. The leather from vitra is thicker, but after a couple of years the leather is getting loose around around the cushion. Also it started to crack, although i know how the handle leather.. The HM Leather looks a lot better in my opinion. Also the rubber shockmounts on the new herman miller chairs are glued as well as they have about 4 or 5 ... | |||||

| DIFFERENCES:REAL VS: REPRO WOMB- HOW CAN YOU TELL? Recently, there was a very useful thread about how to spot a fake Eames lounge/ottoman.Very enlightening! Can anybody point out the differences in the real Knoll Womb vs the somewhat ubiquitous repros? Are there actually cushion retaining tabs/hooks in the fakes?? | |||||

| There are differences betwe... There are differences between Vitra furniture and Herman Miller and we have talked about it many times on this forum, it appears the most prominent one is the different bases on the Eames Lounge chair here in America we call it 670 and 671 and the bases for Vitra are the star bases used on the original aluminum group that Eames introduced in 1958 | |||||

| There are differences My wife and I were just in SF and we almost went to R&B, but bailed at the last minute. I'm thinking that was a good thing. 🙂 We bought a custom-made sofa from R&B. There was a spot on it that wasn't sewn right, so I called their customer service. They were prepared to have another sofa made and sent out to me for FREE or knock off 20% of my existing sofa. I would have had to wait another 6 weeks, but I could keep the sofa I had until the new one arrived. I wonder how Hive would live up to that situation? I know that DWR and R&B's retur ... | |||||

| Time differences are a large... Time differences are a large impediment to live interaction. When Olive gets home in the evening from a hard days work, has something to eat and settles in online with DA, Patrick is probably already asleep in Belgium and Stephen is just starting his day in Australia (or is he in Sweden?). Some of us may interact during business hours and others in the evening. I know that having family 6 time zones away takes a little more effort to coordinate a simple phone call. My favourite contributors seem laid back, relaxed and patient ... | |||||
