| difficult And hard to bring something home you have doubts about. But i did just that. Searching for super bed-side tables, i just bought some for cheap...solid wood, vintage mahogany but just kinda odd and not that special. Or just not quite right for me. Not much money invested so when i find the right thing, these will go to Sally Army. But i will no longer fret about what i needed... I'll be a bit more patient for the right thing. And i now know with this test what size works. (its only been about 24 hrs but what a difference a large bed-side surface ma ... | |||||

| differences The difference that I was told matters in regards to comfort is one of proportions. Some people fit the Plycraft better than the Eames. That aside, certainly the Eames chair has got to be superior. I sat in one in Harrod's for awhile and it was very nice but it's usually not a good idea to judge the comfort of a chair when you've been sight-seeing and shopping all morning. A pillow on top of a pile of bricks would feel pretty good on a day like that. I'd love to have an Eames chair and a Plycraft in my house for a few days just to compare. T ... | |||||

| I wonder if there's that much of a difference between the 'offical' Herman Miller Taiwanese Hang It All vs. the knockoffed copies one see around eBay and at the knockoff furniture websites. Heck, if HM is knocking them off themselves, then what';s the difference? | |||||
| If it makes any difference, | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| If it makes any difference, I have promoted HiveModern, Retromodern and Highbrow before over DWR, because of DWR's sales taxing and the fact that even though they are proper Knoll and Herman Miller distributed, it was THEY who decide to only offer certain Knoll and Herman Miller pieces. Go figure. | |||||

| Even tho I've discussed it alot, I hesitate to buy a knockoff sofa just like everyone else on this forum. But, honestly, if you bought the knockoff the $1700 and had it redone properly (assuming that the frame was OK), you could restore the knockoff to the look of the PK original for less than 1/3rd of the price to buy a real one! And that's what's so frustrating...$1700 vs. $20000. Let's say you were in the market for a Saarinen Tulip chair or an Eames Lounge chair and ottoman. The price difference between the real one and the knockoffs AREN'T as dramatic ... | |||||

| Those zeros make all the difference. The cost of having something reupholstered can vary WILDLY, depending on how much legwork you're willing to do. Before I knew any better, I randomly phoned furniture reupholsters for quotes on reupholstering a simple Danish sofa, composed of four box cushions-- I think the lowest quote I got was $1,700, fabric not included. Taking those same four cushion covers (sans foam) to a seamstress along with several yards of new fabric, for her to duplicate, cost a couple hundred dollars. | |||||

| Hate to disagree but I think the early clips were not changed in the early 1960s, but rather 1971. If you look into buying new replacement cushions, you'll see that they make that distinction: http://highbrowfurniture.com/seating/products/67071/ We have had several Eames lounge chairs, and when unless they were altered at some point, when they had down cushions, they were all down-filled. Seat, back, ottoman. More often than not there have been no labels present, but all you have to do is pop one off and you can tell the difference. The down filled cushions ... | |||||

| What is the difference? | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| What is the difference? Modifying someone's text for personal gain, and modifying someone's designs for personal gain are exactly the same. I dont disagree that the price of the ESU is high, I just dont find that a valid excuse for buying a knock-off - no matter how well it's made. And LRF - I dont want to deprive you of your flat screen television - but if an ESU can't be configured to fit - why not choose a different piece of furniture all together? There are hundreds of vintage credenzas, cabinets, and hutches out there that would fit. | |||||

| Big difference I now agree with Barry at first i did not. I called a friend who has a Womb chair and they said the same thing you did. to a T at first they bought just the chair from Knoll and they used the chair on a daily basis but were very disappointed in the way the chair sat with anyone in it , They bought the ottoman, and were lucky enough to match the fabric with no problem , They said they could not be more pleased with the way the chair sits now, it made a big differe ... | |||||

Their is a big difference between the 1994 copy and the 2004 copy the new one has a lot more pictures, and of course more info, but since i have had this on my desk for a week and looked at it a lot their is still a lot of info that they did not publish. I guess I will just have to write my own encyclopedia. someday | |||||
| The difference for design | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | James Collins | General discussion | |
| The difference for design between today and the flurry of modernism (some good, all well intentioned) post depression is that today the very rich are just getting richer. I fear the result is good design becoming ever more an elitest icon supported by the rich. | |||||
