| A scratch in my teak! | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Have a piece of danish teak furniture, frustratingly it has a scratch about 3' long, it doesn't appear to be too deep. What is the best way to deal with this, can I polish or do something to get rid or at least make it a little less harsh? I have tried a standard furniture polish which hasn't made a lot of difference. Thanks 🙂 | |||||

| Age of Mies MR20 Cantilever Armchairs | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | miesquestion | General discussion | |
| I have 2 vintage Mies van der Rohe Chrome and Tan Cane Cantilever Armchairs (MR20). I'm trying to figure out their age. One distinct thing I notice is that they have a small connecting tube or rod connecting the arms and legs with one inset hexagonal fastener/screw. However most pictures of this chair show a clamp-like connector. Does anyone know what the difference is between the two models and if this can help me figure out the age and manufacturer of my chairs? Is there anything else I should be looking for? I posted a picture of one just like it on a ... | |||||

| ... the hell do you outlay that kind of cash for 4-5 days selling and yet be expected to turn a profit.Obv you can seing as there are plenty of dealers on board already. Someone at this fair is going to get screwed and its not just the guy organising it 🙂 I guess this throws up a question which I spoke recently with my father (antique collector ) about.I asked him if someone walked into a top end antique dealers today and bought a table and chairs for $150,000 but decided the next day to sell the same table and chairs by auction could they expect to get 50% of ... | |||||
| Alphaville for the money | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | LRF | General discussion | |
| ... .... I have been over every inch with a tape measure to see what the difference is . There is such a small difference in the 70's set from the new Alphaville ones . The only differnce is in the steel feet. Alphaville retooled so they won't scratch your wood floors. The new Knolls that i saw at DWR have the Mies name on them (for that money they should have the mans picture,) The cushions on the new ones are some what different and they say if you want they can get you Spinneybeck o ... | |||||
| Examples of Modernist Tobacco Pipes? | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| I have promised myself that I will not start smoking a pipe until my seventieth birthday, which mercifully is still some time away. I love briar pipes. I love the smell of fine pipe tobacco. But since I lost both my parents to smoking diseases and my wife is a doc with endless horror stories on the subject, I intend to wait to start pipe smoking until I figure not to die early from it. The above being said, I just finished reading Georges Herment's "The Pipe," a guide to pipes and the smoking of them, and began to wonder if a modernist designer had given pip ... | |||||
| Sellers beware! | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | Modern Love | General discussion | |
| All sellers, please refer to the earlier thread "Emily Spam". This scam is making the rounds on eBay, so watch out! Buyers from third-world countries, buying big ticket items with overvalued checks/money orders, hoping you will return the difference. See link below. The checks/money orders are fraudulent. Beware, as I almost fell for it. Again this scam is better explained in the earlier thread "Emily Spam". http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=miraseco0&iid=300007852074 | |||||
| Help authenticating Bertoia side chair | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | peter osullivan | General discussion | |
| Picked up a pair of chrome Bertoia side chairs last week, I bought them last minute on ebay so I didnt have the time to investigate them fully The construction of the chairs seems very good I have compared one of the pair to my single white side chair (which I believe to be genuine Knoll) [IMG] [/IMG] However the main body of the chair is a slightly different shape with the white chair having a more sloping base and less upright back, [IMG] [/IMG] also the backrest of the chrome chair is approximately 1 higher than the white [IMG] [/IMG] Another ma ... | |||||

| ... people do more than just voicing their opinions and sharing their knowledge. The helping hands given to those who did not know how to insert pictures was one of these nice moments. Today I was on the receiving end of Martin, sometimes known as M_Andersen's kind generosity. So, I would like to thank him for sending the Bruun Rasnmussen auction catalogue of Poul Kjaerholm furniture. It is full of interesting things. One of the most interesting ones is to see all these well-known pieces but after years of use and "aging" the other ones are completety un-known ... | |||||
| when was this eames Lounge chair build?? | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| ... a five star base with round edges at the ending. Usualy this is shown with the vitra edition and not with the herman miller edition. I have no idea when this chair was build, but the seatings are filled with duck feathers. I heard that only used duck feathers upon a certain time and after a while they started using different fillings. Has anyone got an idea until when they used duck feathers as filling. Can anyone tell me if they have a chair with the same herman miller sticker at the bottom? My chair is like this chair: lotnumber 156. Also a herman miller ... | |||||

| eames desk on sale? | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| I want to buy an Eames desk and would like to find one on sale, but to no avail so far. Set price seems to be $1,095, with only difference being free shipping (highbrow furniture) or not (DWR). Used desks don't seem to come up on Ebay--except vintage ones for $2,500 plus, which is out of my league. I am not opposed to a knock off, but these are not THAT expensive so I want a Herman Miller product. Do they ever go on sale? Thanks in advance... | |||||

| interior design versus interior architecture | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| what is the difference, I'm wondering because at the moment i'm studying an interior design degree at the Surrey institute, however my tutors usually say it should be called interior architecture. My friends confuse it with interior decoration which i don't like to be associated with, so i usually say I'm studying interior architecture. I was just wondering if people had any opinions or thoughts as to what the difference is | |||||
