| Are France & Son pieces always marked? | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | tchp | General discussion | |
| I bought this piece described as an Ib Kofod Larsen coffee table for France & Son. Compared to the France & Son piece seen in the web link below, the only difference is that the overhang of the tabletop on my table looks a bit longer, although this could be a camera lens distortion. However, there is no maker's mark on the piece at all. It may have been refinished, I am not really sure. Or, it may have just had a fresh coat of oil applied, and that is all. I know a lot of France & Son pieces were marked with a round metal tag, but mine has nothing. Any tho ... | |||||
| Wishbone Question for wood workers | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| So - the man and I have tentatively reached a conclusion on dining chairs. CH24 - aka the Wishbone. (we both really liked CH46 - but WAY out of budget) I'm a little confused as to what the differences in wood are - hoping people here can help me differentiate them. I see Oak, Beech, Ash, Walnut, Cherry, Maple, and lacquered oak as well. Some things I have questions with: Are there structural benefits to the wood types beyond just color/grain? i.e - will one wood be sturdier than others? Why is there a significant difference between black lacquered Oak a ... | |||||

| Hello I have two nelson contract benches. Which have the metal frames with wood slats table and cushions. One of the benches is just under 20 inches on the inside of the frame, and the other is 20 inches exactly. Does anyone know why there is a difference? I wanted to mix and match my components. They are pictured in the 1961 and 1962 catalogs as being 20inches? Please help....... | |||||

| Arriere-garde vs. Derriere-gard efforts... | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| Koen recently made reference to arrière-garde efforts of architects. As a non-French/Flemish speaker, and as a lover of puns, I had to wonder what the difference in meaning (and coarseness) would be to refer to a derriere-garde effort, rather than an arriere-garde effort by architects. 🙂 Please forgive me. | |||||
| Knoll chair - with and without space | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | Brent | General discussion | |

| Question as to appreciative potential of Heywood/Wakefield | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | rockybird | General discussion | |
| ... the replicas. Granted, the newer pieces are so expensive that I suspect the older versions would never reach that value anyway, at least in my lifetime. Is there a difference in the quality or staining? I suppose buying a unique older nonreplicated piece would be preferable to buying one that is still being produced. I like the idea of owning a unique older piece to that of owning a piece that anyone can buy off the shelf. | |||||
| The Battle on Fake Design | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | Luckner | General discussion | |
| We're currently working on creating an article about the issue of fake design furniture and highlighting the problems that arise as a result of its distribution. We've put together a few initial points that could lead to some interesting writing. Please see below. 1. Copy furniture and design is being sold in UK and having done some initial research it seems that little can be done legally to stop it. 2. Large/ influential magazines and newspapers let copy companies advertise with them. 3. In advertising, the names and models of the originals are mentioned t ... | |||||
| Saarinen Womb chair: Vintage or new version? | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | kolecho | General discussion | |
| I am interested in getting a Saarinen Womb chair and ottoman. I would appreciate some help with the following question. The Eames lounge and ottoman had rosewood and duck feather cushion fillings in the earlier versions which was later changed to other veneers and cushion fillings. Assuming that the Saarinen chair are both made by Knoll, is there any difference between a vintage one and a new one that might affect collectibility? Many thanks. | |||||

| Hello folks I have a client who is planning to open an antique store, but an antique store with a difference. She would like to display the objects and furniture within a contemporary environment. To show how the correctly chosen piece can complement any modern lifestyle. I've been trawling the interweb trying to find examples of how this has been tackled in the past... but with no joy, hence this cry for help. Are there any design addicts out there that know of interesting examples of a mix of contemporary interiors using antique furniture and fittings??? ... | |||||

| Anything wrong with the DA Blog? | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | koen | General discussion | |
| Just wondering... Alix and Patrick obviously had some well intended plan and added the blog to the many other possibilities of DA. They are also posting a number of interesting things they find in "designland", but somehow it looks underused. I for one does not understand very well the difference between the blog and the forum, but that's to a large extend due to my ignorance about the new media. I wonder waht everybody else is thinking... | |||||
