| daybed vs. sofa | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | daddyobob | General discussion | |
| Is there a technical definitive difference between a daybed and a sofa? For instance, a daybed must be placed against a wall to support back cushions? Does anyone know where the phrase "Daybed" first started being used? I apologize in advance as I am new to the forum and am fairly excited to have a knowledge base to access other then books and online searches. I am moving 7000 sqft of mostly mid-century items collected over the last 25 years and I can not stand to part with some of the pieces and still have a clear conscience that I have done everything pos ... | |||||
| Dux Sylve Stenquist? ID | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | mvalen | General discussion | |
| I've been trying to identify this chair for a while and pretty much gave up but i came across an ad today on ebay that looks similar to my chair. The only difference I can see is the lower cross bar on the sides of the chair. Does anyone know anything about the chair or the designer? My search has come up empty handed... there is a sticker on my chair that says "sweden". | |||||
| Coconut chair George Nelson ID | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | lionel | General discussion | |
| Hi, I want to know the difference between both versions of the coconut chair as shown in the pictures below. first one has a 3-point fastening from the chromefeet on the metalshell (so 3 different legs) >there isnt a herman miller label under only a label with some numbers(guess 6) second one has a backlegg fastened on the shell as the first one but both frontleggs are comming together in one curving steelmesh where the shell has its support on. No labels on the metalshell both are described as herman miller editions with a metal shell(so they dont seems to ... | |||||
| Cadovius Wall Unit - Buying Guide | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | Blinky | General discussion | |
| HI, I am looking at buying a Cadovius wall unit. I've seen teak and rosewood ones -- are these the only types of wood used? Different teak units also seem to have different coloured wood. Is this mostly due to the photos or is the difference in the wood? If so, is it hard to combine parts from different systems? Also, are they veneer or solid wood? Are there different models considered more "collectors item" than other types? Many thanks! | |||||
| Bert England or Renzo Rutili????? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | Neoteric Inland | General discussion | |
| I've been noticing lots of Johnson Furniture Company pieces from the 50's and 60's being attributed to Bert England and Renzo Rutili. Anyone have any history on these designers and know the difference between the two? What is listed on the web is very confusing. Thanks | |||||
| Arne Jacobsen Visor - Table Lamps, new Chinese invasion | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | donsof | General discussion | |
| It looks like this beautiful design is now under siege, and there is an ebay seller peddling these with the AJ name. I did a quick search and found that there is a site called alibaba.com that lists these for under 100 dollars. I don't have a problem with any of this until these are represented as Jacobsen, and sold without disclosing these are chinese in origin. Seems like a good profit margin for the ebay seller though. How do we tell the difference between the knockoff and a Poulsen version? | |||||

| Alvar Aalto stool or Ikea Fosta | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | WaywardVintage | General discussion | |
| So I have run into a few of these stools over time and have always wondered...Do I have an original? did I just pay $7.00 for a vintage Alvar Aalto or did I just spend $7.00 on a Ikea Fosta stool worth $12.00 brand new! I purchased one several months ago which I thought might be original due to its severe wear and apparent age. The wood was chipped, worn, and the bottom of the legs showed serious age. I believe the previous owner used it as a plant stand... The stool was stained walnut brown, and lacked any markings on the bottom. The legs were held on by 2 ... | |||||
| My solution for missing CSS wall mount brackets | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| ... work. I had to shave a bit off of the backs of the brackets and off of the "T" shaped part of the clips. It's a very small amount - nothing that would affect function or make them unusable in the original brackets. You can see the difference - the ISS brackets are narrower, so the clip sits on top of it rather than resting in the recessed channel on the original brackets. Here's a prelim picture of the first bay. I'll post more as I go. | |||||

| egg chair | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | wombchair | General discussion | |
| does anyone know how to tell the difference between a real egg chair and a copy? did fritz hansen always make this chair?did they always label this chair? I found one but it does not have any markings. It seems to have hand stiching, in red material. Can't tell what the shell is made of. It is in a store and the owner bought it from a private individual. The price is $2,500 - seems low for a real egg chair but the store owner was looking for the markings of fritz hansen as well and could not find them. I am interested in a real one. What do you think? could i ... | |||||

| ... and stucco and was surprised to see the block well preserved. In the back, I did cut back the soffit and knock down the columns to open up the view (huge difference!). The architect is suggesting I do the same to the front - cut back the soffits/knock down the block. I am torn. I like the idea of restoring the block columns and the home to its 1958 original design. At the same time, I like how clean and modern the back of the home looks (or will look when cleaned up). I am attaching a link to pics - the first pic is the original home in 1958, the next ... | |||||
