| Hello, I stubled across a chair which I feel is a Nanna ditzel 3400. As I understand they were produced in the 50s onwards..Not sure how old this chair is, so my questions are.How long were the originals in production ?were they reproduced over the decades ?If reproduced, how do they differ and are they desirable ?JP | |||||

| I beg to differ about the weave in the original advert. You can definitely see much more light through the back weave and not the seat weave. You can see the seat weave is tighter. I would say it is just like the OP's chairs. Am I crazy? | |||||

| Some will probably disagree, but from me to you, NO RULES but yours. Your place, your rules, If someone comes in and beg to differ, show them the way out. Follow your instincts and what pleases you not others, but if you must it is probably best to consult with an expert or a professional for a design/space planning advice. | |||||

| There is a dining suite that Johannes Andersen designed for Hans Bech that is on the Danish furniture index. This is the table. I have never even seen the matching chairs in photos, and I've seen the sideboard with an arc shaped base in photos once. So these pieces are quite rare, and I suspect nobody know the answer you are looking for. If I were you, I would start looking for little details about the two pieces and see if they match up. The same manufacturer will use the same hardware, jigs, etc. Maybe look and see if the both have identical glides? Chec ... | |||||
| I think values differ in | 2 Relevance | 11 years ago | classic eames | General discussion | |
| I think values differ in different markets. I bought my first Eames lounge and ottoman set in 1984 and own two right now. First of all, grain patterns and condition of the leather matter... a lot. If you have a set with a magnificent grain pattern and clean, unmarred leather, that can add 25-50% value. The grain pattern on the ottoman should match the grain pattern on the chair. Dates on labels should match. If you're in NY or LA or SF or another strong market, that can add another 5-10%. If you're buying from a retailer versus a private party that can add ... | |||||

| i beg to differ Robert1960 has helped me out on several occasions and has always been courteous. More courteous than a lot of others on this forum. It looks to me like something was lost in translation on this thread which has resulted in Arthur Sixpence taking offence, which is a shame as I don't believe it was intended. Let's not use this an excuse to start a lynchmob. There are a lot more people on this forum whom I find far more offensive and contribute a lot less, start which them if you want to vent at someone. Shame we're back to yet another hate camp ... | |||||

| Nahhh its fine to differ with me Lunchbox. Its just that you SAY you appreciate Noguchi, but then you you seem to leave out big parts of what he seems to be about. And to be honest, I think you have not really addressed most of my specific points in my posts. One or two maybe, but mostly you just stick to the narrow way you choose to see this, rather than address any of the other ways of seeing it that have been discussed here. Thats your choice, I get it. Its fine if you think I am a jerk or whatever, or full of myself. But like you said about a couple of ... | |||||

| I beg to differ Pre-woven cane seats are very easy to do. The hardest part is digging out the old cane and spline, but there is a special tool for this (probably under $15 these days--I got mine a long time ago) that makes it easier. It looks like a bent chisel, sorta. Cut the sheet cane about 2" bigger in every direction. Soak in warm water for 30-45 minutes. Press into the groove with caning wedges (available where you get the caning). Apply glue in groove. Tap new reed spline into place. Trim caning with Xacto. Let dry. Done. This is a skill taug ... | |||||

| I think we have a very differ... think we have a very different way of looking at the world, you're quite right, I try and only speak from experience, as do you but oh well nothing ventured nothing gained eh? At least you've got something to say and I am incredibly appreciative that your post wasn't from a certain fellow compatriot as I initially expected! | |||||

| I beg to differ I agree with you over Franck's enamel bowls and Nurmesniemi's coffee pot but I do believe Nurmesniemi designed the pots as well. did Heikki Mallet (spelled incorrectly?) work for Arabia or Finel? | I beg to differ about the inf... I beg to differ about the influence of machines. Spinning cutters (drills, routers, lathes) do have an influence on the result, without them this Borge Morgensen chair would be quite a different piece, I'm sure when he concieved it the knoweldge of what joints and profiles could be created with drills and routers was a strong influence. An even more basic example would be the potters wheel. Geometry has never been the sole property of modernist designers, earlier objects and architecture were equally indebted, if not more so, ... | |||||
