| Help Identifying Chrome & Rush Chair + Black Chrome Table (High Point Estate Sale) | 1 Relevance | 1 year ago | johanaT | Identification | |
| ... chrome flat bar frame with handwoven rush seat and backrest. Very clean, minimalist lines. I can’t find any markings, but it reminds me of diego Matthai or possibly a High Point studio prototype. Table – Black lacquer top with rounded corners, supported by thick polished chrome cylindrical legs. The underside is labeled “2760 Chrome Sample” but no maker’s mark that I can find. Photos attached (including bottom views). Any insight would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance 🙏 https://imgur.com/a/GglWkcC | |||||

| Came across a craigslist listing for an old fridge which looks like one of the ones Finn Juhl, in his varied career, designed for GE in the (I think) 1960's. Not in good shape, missing most of the distinctive shelves -- the seller says it would be a good "kegerator" or "garage fridge" and "just needs a little scrubbing." Pretty rare, but probably only for diehard Juhlophiles. There's one of Juhl's fridges in the basement of his house in Copenhagen, and the curators let me see take a few pix when I was there last summer. Here are my pix, and the craigslist ... | |||||

| I agree, certainly they're... I agree, certainly they're inferior to the classics, but they're nice nonetheless, and for ten bucks per chair I have no regrets. I found this label tucked into one of the chair bases and I assume it means nothing...but about a year ago I bought a pair of lovely chairs with similar nondescript labels that turned out to be Gunlockes, so I'm a diehard double-checker. Thanks again! | |||||

| I have painted a few of... I have painted a few of these but apart from our diehard design ethic why would you dismantle them particularly when they can be damaged whilst dismantling? I'm only saying that because apart from the cast metal on the underside what else would you paint that wasn't visible? I'm a bit stumped | |||||

| Yeah, I think I could live... Yeah, I think I could live with this chair were it comfortable but the color/upholstery, I don't know - definitely vintage Star Trek. As for the sci-fi folks, I sense most of the real diehard ones are just getting home from Minnesota. But that's another topic. | |||||

| so rick this means that you... so rick this means that you have been looking for more than 1.5 years and still haven't obtained such a vase... i was told that those vases were already sold before producing by some diehard alessi fans. nevertheless you could find one in some designgalleries no? i saw en exhibition some years ago in the fondation cartier (paris) maybe they can help you and tell you where these vases were headed... | |||||

| ... tell you if your clock ever had its other hands, and advise you about replacing them. Note that the hands you found online have two different post hole shapes; how would you know before ordering whether they would fit your clock ? Wouldn't the local expert be the best resort -- or are you a diehard do-it-yourselfer ? Some things are still the province of specialists, and clocks seem to belong to that category, to me. . . A new brass hand would have to be dulled, or the old one brightened up, to make it look right, I guess -- but you could do that yoursel ... | |||||

| Yum! {Olive, did you ever seek out Sugarloaf and its modernist observation tower for me? Or, rather, for the potential view? diehard Wrightians are never satisfied. . .!] My thoughts precisely, as to the irreplaceability of M 1.0 -- the only line I could quibble with is, "Ornate styles simply don't function well in our highly-technogical world." As we aren't talking about supersonic speeds, and (foam) scrolls flying off and damaging the cargo hold (or whatever), if reasonable comfort, durability and functionality are provided, I suppose any "style" is techni ... | |||||
| Nice looking PC hardware? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | Lit Up | General discussion | |
| ... I just went into the Apple store in Covent Garden and bought an awesome 27in iMac. It's massive and aesthetically amazing. My friend (a PC devotee with a shit looking computer) said that I had paid a premium for looks. Well yes, I think looks are worth paying a premium for! Anyhow most design conscious people that I know use macs, so I'm wondering if there are any PC diehards on this forum with a computer that looks better than the dieter Rams-esque Jonathan Ives creations of Apple. | |||||

Legs got hand-rubbed French polish, about six coats, and I left a little of the patination in the wood. rather than sand it all down to completely fresh-looking wood. It may not have much collector value anymore, but I think it was well past that point before I did anything here. Curious to see what the diehards have to say. | |||||

| UUUGGGG!!! Thank You very much for your response! Alas I have tried to find similar designs by her but as it stands I'm leaning towards Milo Baughman. Some of his designs have a similar base. I'm new to all of this but I found this piece in a thrift store in Berkley in perfect condition(NOT A SCRATCH) and my partner talked them down from $200 to $180. I know I got a good deal but I'm dieing to know more about this piece!! Now I see what the big "Hubbub" is about design...it's totally addicting! Thanks again. Anyone else got any ideas? ^_^ | |||||

| ... to design oak living rooms in a peasant style, the factory was expanded again. A new factory was built in the neighboring area to the north of the former sports field, and sales increased through the 1960s. Around 1970, it was part of an export company Scan Rustik with 8 factories. It was exported to 6 countries, i.a. Germany and Norway.Poul Petersen resigned as head of the factory in 1977. A director was to run the company, but it went less well. The factory was then sold to Boflex by director BJ diekmann in 1980. Boflex continued furniture production.Nyr ... | |||||
