| I'll hit it off with... I'll hit it off with this... Geisel Library at the U of C-San diego. One of my favorite Brutalist bulidings. It's a bit of an illusion...while apperaing large, the interior is quite small in comparison. I think of Buckminster Fullers floating communities. | Last time I listed my MP3 playlist (which, if I recall correctly, included a lot of oh-so-cheesey '80s pop music), Olive guessed (wrongly) that my age was somewhere in the mid-40s. I just downloaded a fresh new set of songs into my MP3 player, including: Green Day's American Idiot (the entire CD) Eminem's Mosh and Dream On Dixie Chicks (various) and the new Rolling Stones song, Sweet Neo Con. Yeah yeah yeah, angry liberal . . . . And to think, 8 years ago, I was a registered Repub living in San diego! How things have changed . . . . | |||||

| Midcentury great finds.. Wow, you sure found some great stuff, Barrympls. My neighbor bought 6 white Bertoia chairs for $1,200. here in San diego. Bargained the price down from 1,600. Wish I could be so lucky. It was a friend of hers who found them, he seems knowledgable re midcentury, etc. I too really like Richard Schultz furniture and a few years ago I purchased a couple of used 1966 lounge chairs for $500. The slings were trashed so new ones are in order that are so outrageously expensive at $1,000.- $1,200 per sling. Crazy huh?! Actually the frames nee ... | |||||

| ... I made early on was taking my kid everywhere. There's nothing wrong with going less when you have a child. Going less means less stress from new environments. It means less exposure to diseases in shopping centers and mass transit. Going less means you stay more focusd on your child's tiny world and needs and less time focused on your big world and big needs (oh how big our needs grow when suddenly we are dared to relinquish them in the name of sacrifice to a little person). Going less means you are growing up. Its absurd to try to keep living the lifestyle ... | |||||

| I learned this evening that the president was in San diego at the beginning of the week, chatting about the war, etc, and a decision was made to address the hurricane aftermath "at the end of the week" -- a decision not apparently revisited despite the subsequent developments. Simply amazing. If the man and his group cared at all about world opinion, they would have red faces; something tells me this is going to get through to them despite that, when the smoke (and sewage) clears. . . | Go to fifth row down, far right photo. Click on to enlarge; should be #24 of 42. Isn't that sweet? What would you say are the three colors on that house? Palmer and Krisel designed a lot of modern homes in the LA area and in San diego and Palm Springs, apparently. There's a lot more out there than just Eichler (who was not an architect but an inspired builder). SDR | |||||

| Judging "white" in photos is particularly difficult, isn't it? I was reviewing online photos of midcentury residences in the San diego area, and had earlier selected a favorite, in terms of both form and color. Yesterday I loked again at what I had thought was a white, acqua and blue paint job, and noticed a white realtor's sign in the photo, which was noticeably "whiter" than the house. I had to conclude that the lightest color on the house had to be a pale blue or green. http://www.lottaliving.com/gallery/residential_sd_palmerkrisel/San_Diego... | |||||

| Going to L.A. (david) Hi.. Regarding sight seeing in Los Angeles, do you have any suggested landmarks to visit?? I live in San diego, just south of L.A and I occasionally jaunt up to visit furniture showrooms and soak up the L.A. flavor. It's fun being in the hub of L.A, but the drive up is a drag, sort of like going through the "gunk" to arrive at the rainbow. Haven't experienced any night life yet,as in the club scene, I've remained pretty low key in that regard. Two years ago I stayed at the beautiful Beverly Hills Hotel to celebrate my birthday which was ... | |||||
