| ... confict of interest. I.e. Ebay is expected to bite the hand that feeds it. My own experiences with eBay have been mostly positive with a couple exceptions, but I still laud the suit. Worst was a 'Tiffany' bracelet I was bidding on for a mother's day present. I was horrified (after bidding of course) to discover that 90% of listed Tiffany pieces are fraudulent. I immediately contacted the seller and told them I would have the piece immediately appraised upon receipt and bad feedback would follow. I was instantly outbid, and I reported the seller to ebay ... | |||||

Surface scratching, I agree they definitely didnt go into any great depth, I did some good further reading off the back of them (I hadnt heard of David Hicks or Charles Voysey prior to listening) Really enjoying Cruickshanks new architecture series on BBC2 at the minute, "golly" he he | |||||

| thanks whitespike. i have seen their labels and they say hille/herman miller just like the older icf's also have h.m. on the label. to me this says that despite the different bases and slightly different upper back supports, they are indeed eames loungers. I couldnt imagine h.m. putting their name on the label if they and eames didnt approve or actually design these differences. the bases do look suspiciously similar to the rolling bases you see shells mounted on. | |||||

| ... then it didnt feel like an "oh if only I'd bid 10$ more!" kind of situation. Still, a nerve wracking 6 day auction! An Eames aluminum lounge chair for $200 - I'd just bought an LCW and didnt have room or money. A 20$ arm shell on Craigslist. Ahh well... better to have loved and lost, etc. | |||||

| ... were the Cherner chair (also known as the Rockwell chair) and Mr.Chair. I've seen the name Mr. Chair applied to 3-4 different Mulhauser designs. It's all rather confusing! lol. Even worse is that many chairs simply didnt have names. The Eames Eiffel chairs actual designation is DSR. All of Kjaerholms stuff is numbered: PK20, 22 etc. Don't worry I ever find a Plycraft catalogue I'll scan the entire thing and upload it. | |||||

| ... leather. I didnt take sequential pictures of my process, but the link below has the whole chair taken apart. You can see how the inner shells have the leather & welting stapled around them, and how they will nest inside the outer shells. One bit of advice - I have found that most of the vintage plycraft lounges have a nasty amber colored shellac on them. When I did my two lounges I sanded that all the way off, revealing beautiful wood grain underneath. It was a royal pain in the ass, but I think it was worth it. I also used a tinted polyurethane to even ... | |||||

| Finch - A DA overthink furnit... Finch - A DA overthink furniture? Impossible! Whitespike - I didnt use that quote to pass judgement on the cherry - only to illustrate a point. I love the 670 in just about any finish 🙂 Some holes in your argument about the 'when and if' these designs are no longer produced. First - you speak of legacy - which is the responsibility of Eames Demetrios and Herman Miller. It is not Modernica's place to 'preserve' these designs because HM is STILL making the shells - and doing so in a way that keeps them culturally relevant. ... | |||||

| Claus As already discussed once the gel-coat is gone you've got issues of more soil creeping into the fibers, as well as the fibers creeping into your skin. I had an old drilled out chair that I took to an auto-body shop and had them spray a clearcoat on. The result was much better than painting. A solid coat of paint makes the surface appear dead and lifeless. The clear-coat preserved the organic quality of the fiberglas, even if it didnt quite match up with the original gelcoat. (The gelcoat is more integrated into the fiberglas, whereas the clear-coat ... | |||||

| ... only that its an Apple product. However, I do find it interesting to see how things like Mulhauser's plycraft lounge chairs relate to the Coconut chair and the likes. I wonder if a good compromise might be something like what appears in Eames Design. Each project is chronicled by year, with the names of all those working in the Eames office at the time. It's not perfect - but as you've seen, many of the records about who did what are lost. All that is left are a few folks left who (in the case of Harper) are conveniently claiming authorship. (I'm not sa ... | |||||

| I was able to get all the pieces... LRF - Your smarmy portrayal of the making of my clock doesnt negate the reality that China is a bad place to work. I've managed to get all the pieces together except one tiny little brass collar that threads on between the minute hand and the second hand. The guy I spoke to at Vitra didnt think it was possible to order that part separately. Is this something I could find at a clock shop? Below: pollution in China blowing from the factories over the residential buildings used to house the work force. | |||||
