| ... bad shape when I moved in. I put a microtopping overlay in the kitchen and baths, but the contractor messed it up - there are patches that he missed and he didnt clean it before sealing it - there is hair and bird seed sealed in the floor (he refunded my money). I want an off-white tile that will brighten the place up. Here are pics of how it looks now: http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o87/jeschbacher/counters/ The pic is some 12x48" (or 12x 24, 24x24) that I just found for a decent price yesterday. | |||||

| ... They were constantly making improvements to their products, and I have no doubt that they would have reached the decision to use a different plastic material (as they did in the EA 127 chair) for the chair shells instead of fiberglass. I have never heard that Modernica was making the cases before HM contracted them...it's counterintuitive that HM would reach out to a knock-off company for legit construction. But either way - while under contract with Herman Miller Modernica had to produce the pieces in strict configurations, and not modify any of the mate ... | |||||

| Willfully Ignorant and Tiresome What's most annoying about this ongoing discussion is the occasional person who jumps into the middle, willfully ignorant of the complexity of the subject and makes some grand sweeping, and usually erroneous, statement. Welcome to the discussion Poach. Let me correct some of the broader errors in your last post: No, Vitra hasn't worked with George Nelson on any of the clocks. They have worker with Jaqueline Nelson, George's wife, former member of Nelson Associates, and executor of the Nelson estate. Vitra produces the clock ... | |||||

| well.. It was $150 and he didnt think it had the original hands. Someone had replaced the motor with a battery operated one. I am going back tomorrow (to pick up something I bought today). I wanted to see a pic of it to see if he was right. Do you think it would be a good deal without the original hands? It's a wood hexagon face, in beautiful condition. I just now I have seen it somewhere. | |||||

| i have the case study bed... i have the case study daybed (modernica) Main issue with it is the lack of arms didnt really consider this when i was buying not having them really limits how you can can sit on it, always feels like you in a waiting room 🙁 Personally when i sit on a sofa I either lean against the arms or put my back against them and stretch my legs out along it (modernica offer a version with arms which would address this problem) its pretty comfortable apart from that not to deep and the back cushions are nicely supportive, it also makes a grea ... | |||||

| Racist? | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| Racist? Actually I didnt "just google" a picture of a Chinese factory. I pulled a photo from a Flickr Photostream, posted by a dealer, who was showing how the knock-off pieces he sells are made. Follow the link below. And I love how easily you deflect the argument: because I disagree I'm a racist. Just because China can make things of quality, and even though some reputable dealers make things there doesn't excuse their lack of human-rights/environmental/economic safe-guards. It is something every industrialized country must deal with, the US included. A ... | |||||

I didnt even notice them. Anyway, he was such a nice old guy and really seemed to know his stuff that I left the clock with him. He agreed to repaint the hands also, but I left with the precious second hand wrapped in a towel. I also got my GN table clock today! I will post pics soon.

(Imagine if we all had to determine quality for ourselves, rather than relying on branding and reputation) However, it is too easy for the individual to eclipse all collaboration and seem super-human and God-like. George Nelson, Charles & Ray Eames, Martha Stewart. The very names bring forth images of boundless energy, unrelenting vision, and unquestionable genius. But we all know that these people are merely figure-heads for the creativity and visions of others. That is not to say any of them lack vision, energy, or genius. In fact their suc ...

| nice desk Barry your desk is very cool Barry. I dont own the little green desk. I just saw it on craigslist for $125 and thought it was really cute. The thing next to it is a trashcan. I didnt have a place for it and I didnt feel like driving out to look at it, but I still think it's cute! Nopers, I only own two Mccobb desks. I did at one time consider purchasing an original Eames desk. It seems I keep bumping into desks while looking at mid-century items. And I wont deny that I think some desks are beautiful architectural pieces. 🙂 | |||||

| Lol Deja Vu. This thread has happened before almost verbatim. Don't be worried about the lack of the embossed "M" Herman Miller logo. HM contracted out to various plastics manufacturers to make the shells. Some of the earlier manufacturers didnt emboss the M, some only the M and later both the M and the words Herman Miller. Herman Miller has no exact dates, but they generalize 1950-53ish not all of the shells were marked. 1953-56ish the M logo, 1957+ both logo & name. The double overlapping triangles is the makers-mark of the subcontractor: Summit Plast ... | |||||
