| ebay advice needed please | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | bobbdavs (UK) | General discussion | |
| ... had done his/her research and maybe knew someone in the UK or was coming over for a buying trip to the UK and would pick it up en-route. They didnt pay for it and now several days later after the auction has said that he/she cant find a courier cheap enough and that they want to cancel the sale and that admitted they should have done some research before bidding. I guess I will need to open an ebay case and report him/her for this. However if I do that will I loose the ability to make a second chance offer to the next highest bidder? Thanks, | |||||
| Mid-century Wegner rope chair? ID | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | queeuqag | General discussion | |
| Picked up this chair a few years ago at a dumpster, didnt think much of it until recently when I was going to put it on Craigslist. I am trying to figure out if this is a Wegner, or some subsequent impersonation (like the Yugoslavian ones). I cannot find any markings on the chair, but that might be because the finishing is pretty messed up. | |||||
| Nelson Drawer Pull | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| Hi all - I didnt have much luck searching the archives so I'll ask up front: Does anyone know of a source of vintage/new production hardware for a Nelson chest of drawers? The style is similar to Case Study - with hairpin legs. The pulls are a softened "M" shape, made out of stainless. A friend thought he knew of someone in Canada producing things like this, but couldnt remember their name. Flickr link below. Thanks in advance! http://www.flickr.com/photos/38178174@N00/553035889/ | |||||

| I have seen the elephant in books and always thought it was great, Im very tempted by it however at £1000 I am undecided if its just to much money, What are your opinions on it? One thing, I may be mistaken but didnt the original have notches in the feet / legs? http://www.vitra.com/products/designer/charles_ray_eames/elephant/default.asp?lang=gb_en | |||||
| Value of Thonet Barstools | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| I was at my sisters house over the weekend and she showed me her yardsale find of two thonet barstools. She didnt know what they were worth - I told her I would check into it. They are bar height, with a plywood seat, spine, and backrest ala Eames. Four individual bent plywood legs and a footrest that was either wood or chrome. My camera was dead so I couldnt take photos. One had a label "Thonet. 1 Park Avenue" Anyone have any ideas about value or appraisals? She picked them up for $5 each so its not a big deal if they're worth only that. Thanks in adva ... | |||||
| Barcelona Chairs - Label/Stamps of Authenticity | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Hello, I recently purchased a pair of Barcelona chairs at an auction. The cushions have attached a paper label indicating they were manufacture by Knoll International New York. However the steel frame has no stamps whatsoever on the legs. I thought Knoll chairs all have this. Or was there a time where Knoll didnt put them on the frames yet? I suppose my chairs are around 30 years old. Thanks for any help. | |||||
| help on restoration of alvar aalto table no70 | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | rols | General discussion | |
| Hi i need some help on how to best restore my aalto table. when i purchased it the top was covered in countless numbers of pin/ tack holes and coated in a black stain of some sort. I managed to nitromors some of the stain off. however some of it was so ingrained it didnt come off. i then cabinets scraped the top but this failed to make much of a difference. i then bleach it[which probably wasnt a good idea] and managed to remove/ lighten some of the stains but stripped it of colour/ patina. i have been advised to try to use a few coats of button shellac [to ... | |||||

| So today on CL someone posted this under a general... for 100 bucks, I immediately offered 250$ cash and went and got it!!! So I payed 250$ for this, I knew it was an authentic but I didnt realize that it was an original rosewood. SO i am trying to figure out what year its from, its down filled and the one odd thing about it is that it has Big Buttons on the Seat Cushion and Ottoman, about double the size of the normal ones, and from looking around I havent seen many like that also the logo that is still attached is the original Circle Herman MIller Logo tha ... | |||||
| my new gn basket clock - new question | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | rockybird | General discussion | |
| My new question is at the bottom of the page. 🙂 I was so excited to get this clock. I won it on ebay for about $288. Well, it came last week and some of the straw is broken off in shipping (I assume). I found two pieces of straw in the bubble wrap. It didnt look so bad initially and I thought I could fix it. Well today I had time to try to piece it together, but it looks like there is more than one piece of straw missing and there are no other pieces in the packing material. The flake of paint also came off the minute hand, but I was going to have it r ... | |||||

| ... received the desk 3 months later. However, the seller always responded to my calls and apologized and said he was having difficulty getting it shipped because of the size. For free, he sent the chair that went with it, which is in poor condition and is a saporiti italian chair. He had told me it was milo baughman, but I looked it up. I didnt want it, I wanted the desk. A couple weeks ago, I received the legs in good condition. But no desktop. I told the seller that I am calling VISA and that I had enough with dealing with this. He said he would have i ... | |||||

Also have some other chairs which we dont know the origins of (which i actually love but dont fit the interiordesign at the moment) so I'll be posting osme pictures of those too 🙂 | |||||

| ... apparently is it useless for much else. I gave it an attempt having nothing to lose. Truly, it did make a huge difference compared to other things ive used before. Other than that it didnt do much from what I saw. It is a little intimidating trying to mess with this kind of furniture This has been a good experience. Looking forward to learning from others on this threat. | |||||

| Aalto/Woodworking Question | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| I've tried searching the archives for this, but didnt find much information. I just found an Aalto stool at a little shop here - and let me tell you the woman brooked no barganing: the price was $20 FIRM! So - the first question is about care. Whatever jackass owned this previously felt that the stool seat needed a bevel, and so the veneer strip is gone. In addition they sanded off whatever patina may have actually existed. So - how exactly to I treat the wood? Wax? Oil? Poly? As it exists now it is just raw wood with no finish, and on the top the bi ... | |||||

| Hi Builder, I did get a great deal on the falcon chairs (I just love them) but unfortunately my judgement wasnt so great with the table. The falcon chairs - I did offer what I thought was a reasonable price and I didnt know what they were worth - still dont. When the owner removed them for sale they went back to the original listing. They were originally listed at a starting price of I think $50.00 and a 'buy it now' price of $175.00, but someone chose to bid and the buy it now dropped off - can you believe it?? I missed that one!! The is another falcon ... | |||||
