| the birth of design the birth of 'design' and 'modern' didn't happen in one day. generally accepted 'design' started with the industrial revolution (products must be producable on large scale; 'designers' made this possible), then came arts & crafts followed by art nouveau (that was a 'style', 'designers' implemented that style througout all kinds of products)Henri Vandevelde was an art nouveau architect-designer who also designed the first bauhaus school. In that school, amongst others (de Styl in holland), under influence of the worldwar (standardisation) ... | |||||

| ... well, sort of. Also, at first I really didn't like Patricia Urgua-something-qliasa's table "Digitable" from B&B but now I kinda like it. It's not all bad. Like with all styles and trends regarding design and interior decoration, there's a small portion of certain brilliant design trying to set the standard for tomorrow and then there's a large portion of look-a-like crap following it right in its tracks lowering the standard for tomorrow. | |||||

The "help me understand" that you refer to was not in reference to you remarks out the metric system to which you stated: > I don't even want to start on the non existing > reasons for not using the metric system or > driving on the left side Which, I suppose, wasn't really a stupid question because it wasn't a question at all. It was just a stupid declaration that no good explanation for the US not having adopted the metric system existed, and with cavalier ...

| So far so good... The customer support was prompt and friendly. They said they would send me out a new one, and didn't ask for the old one back. The same day I got a notice from UPS saying it is already in the mail. Use the link to see the image I gave them showing the damage: | |||||

| Having grown up in... Having grown up in scandinavia, I didn't see a coloured wall until I was in our equivalent of college. It was always white, white, white... After a while white disappears, and you don't see it. If the purpose of a room is to become invisible, then white is the way to go. If a room should have character, it is not. Myself I just love my coloured walls. 🙂 | |||||
| Yes, color is very personal | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| Yes, color is very personal but I didn't get the feeling that patpoitup's red was a particularly warm red. The comment was 'lipstick' red, which is generally very true red or a more bluish red. Glass green is turquoise-y, which would be a hard combination to enjoy, I think. As you said color is personal, but there are some general rules that make success more likely, such as balancing warm to cool, saturated to flattened that sort ot thing. I may think Xmas colors are wretched, but many other combos or red/green are gorgeous to my mind. | |||||

| reverse engineering... I didn't read the original thread in great detail, but did go over much of the site. very impressive. I couldn't see what cam package you were using.. what was it? Also, is it the same thing that you used for the renderings and morphing? DC, I think to reverse engineer an organic form, or something that was created by an artist/designer/individual that doesn't like to be constrained by numbers; for that part to be constrained to the nth degree, by a process such as point-cloud, would be considered "reverse engineering" for people th ... | |||||

As an example, I have a blanket policy covering up to a total of $50,000, w/a ceiling of $10K on any individual item. No deductible. Cost is $105 per year. It's called "valuable articles" or "fine arts" coverage. I didn't have to itemize, but you can go that route, too. The insurance isn't great, but isn't too expensive and lets me sleep easier knowing that if, god forbid, something should happen, i would ...

| catalogue normally i buy mostly every catalogue when i visit a designexhibition, but this time, (because it was not really 'my style') i didn't. Maybe i should have, because as designers we should allways keep an open mind (shame on me). But i believe that there was one available. tomorrow i'll pass by the museum and ask them. | |||||

| yes yes koen, last week i went to the exhibition (at the opening).(i didn't saw your question about this topic so excuse me for this late answer) i must admit that i did not really knew her (and apparently she lives in belgium!). mmm her style is for me, and that is personal, a bit to 'romantic', a bit like borek sipek. so i must say i did not really liked it. except for some more 'pure' peaces like a set of glasses (made for a hotel, i believe it was the hilton but i am not sure) and some cutlery (the Mango). but nevertheless the exhibition on its own, i be ... | |||||

| As seen on TV I hope the original poster found the info needed in time. For anyone not tired of discussing the seating unit in question, a leaflet from Herman Miller called "Matinee Icons: A Timeline Featuring the Seating Stars of Screen and Television" says, "When legendary Academy Award-winning director Billy WIlder wanted to take a nap on a piece of furniture that didn't 'look like a casting couch,' Charles Eames designed a chaise for him and Herman Miller made it. Through the years, a number of other directors, producers and set designers have given the ... | |||||
