| Check out the link... Check out the link below---it's a forum discussion from awhile back on some other site. I have two chairs whose backs need regluing. I tried regular epoxy and it held up great until someone sat in the chair! Too brittle; didn't flex with the shock mount, I guess. I haven't tried anything else yet. The chairs are in my attic for now but eventually I'll get around to fixing them. I'm hoping someone will discover the perfect adhesive in the meantime. http://www.furnituresociety.org/dc/dcboard.php?az=set_linear_mode&forum=... | |||||

| Le Corbusier book Just bought a vintage book on Unité D'habitation at a very good price, and when I unwrapped the Cristal paper cover...found a note on the first page, by LE CORBUSIER himself "à Mr Grumberg avec toute ma sympathie, LE Corbusier juillet51." the shop didn't see it....too bad! | |||||

| The other design wasn't his The Metropolis article said that he other design wasn't his and that his didn't copy it, but had been accussed of doing so. They did however come up with the bust/vase comparison that really was a total copycat design. | |||||

| ... and bring big things home. Now it's only what will fit in my suitcase. I got six Børge Mogensen dining chairs at an auction last week for $40. They had woven rush seats that were in very poor condition with a lot of mold, too. The chairs also had some metal screws added to the back posts which I didn't even see until after I'd gotten them, but I will remove the screws and add dowels instead. These aren't the most famous Mogensen chairs but they're nice. I have three arm chairs and three side chairs. | |||||

| ... problem. However---if anyone asks me what an item is worth, I give them an honest answer! That is a totally different situation and it actually comes up a lot, though not so much with mod stuff because most of the people I know don't deal in that at all. The ones who do know at least as much as I do, if not more. I've gotten a couple of excellent deals at Goodwill that I ended up selling for a big profit but I've more than covered that with donations to them over the years, so no guilt there. I buy stuff at auction all the time at prices way below marke ... | |||||
| Did Sullivan design anything but buildings? | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| Did Sullivan design anything but buildings? Wright did some furniture and lamps and stained glass and so forth. did Sulllivan? More importantly, I've looked at his buildings in pictures and looked at a few older architecture history books and I think Mr. Sullivan is not sufficiently well understood or appreciated, at least from what little I've read. I know he his held in considerable regard and is always noted in primers on American architecture. But the appreciation of him often stops short of calling him brilliant. More often books and articles about him ... | |||||

| I went there on the first day... I went there on the first day and it was a disappointment! I had gone to 3 sales previous to that in the Bay Area when their warehouse was still in Ca but this time, I didn't see a lot of good stuff and whatever was there, it was still so expensive. I think DWR should come out with another line called DWB, Design Within Budget. | |||||

| "It's ugly...and in bad taste."--Koen I didn't get the definitive, sledge-hammer elegance of Koen's comment early in this thread, when I read it a few days ago. It just struck me as accurate. Now it rings with a kind of poetry. I wish I spoke his native tongue. I bet it sounds even better in that language. | |||||

| Is the Product Dose Header a Suppository? Or is it the pill that Neo didn't take in The Matrix? 🙂 As for the clock link, not sure if I can go for a clock that looks like a pneumatic tube for shipping my pay check and deposit slip to the bank teller circa 1970. Regarding the ancienne Greeks, I suspect that where ever you stand in relation to the road, the river, or the particle accelerator, the technology of time has its fundamentally painful effects. Socrates no doubt found free speech and hemlock to greatly shorten his alotment. | |||||

| ... which was one of the really funny evenings. Noguchi came by, and Bucky Fuller came by. I?d been seeing a lot of Bucky those days, and here was Irving and here was I, and Noguchi, who can?t keep his hands off anything, you know- it is a marvelous, itchy thing he?s got- he saw we were working on clocks and he started making doodles. Then Bucky sort of brushed Isamu aside. He said, ?This is a good way to do a clock,? and he made some utterly absurd thing. Everybody was taking a crack at this,?pushing each other aside and making scribbles. At some point we left ... | |||||
| Eames vs. Plycraft & Selig | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Eames vs. Plycraft & Selig So far I've bought four Eames lounge chair knockoffs at auction, labeled either Plycraft or Selig or not labeled at all. I've also seen the real thing in shops. The differences are easy to spot. The knockoffs all have screws and bolts showing on the outside. The armrests are either a single horizontal platform or they have the curved shape of the Eames armrests but are upholstered by just wrapping the leather around to the underside (no welt and no separate piece around the edge). I think the ottoman is smaller too, but the other d ... | |||||

| Geez, wow... I just wanted a few sugestions for a decent alarm clock. Thanks for those, guys. I didn't mean for things to get all geo-political. But at least I've got some ideas for a new clock, battery powered or otherwise. GeoH, All I have is my intuition to guide me in my choices on what I use and dispose of. Since as you noted it's quite ridiculous to consider doing any kind of a scientific comparision, I just try my best to tread as lightly as I can without becoming a tree-hugging freak. | |||||

| Nope -- the bug was "the People's Car," engineered by Dr Ferdinand Porsche (pre-war). . . tubular backbone chassis, torsion bar suspension, air-cooled flat four, etc etc -- very advanced. Speaking of engineering, the subject of high-heel design is a subject worthy of discussion. And a gallery with examples of the multitude of heel shapes would be an interesting thing to see; didn't somebody do a clear heel with a live fish in it -- or have I been watching too many Simpsons episodes ? | |||||

Also, one time when I had just started collecting a man phoned me saying he had a lot of green Verner Panton fabric for sale at a low price. Though I turned him down without even hearing the price as I didn't like the colour green at that time. DOH! About two weeks ago I saw an ad where a family not far from where I live gave away free vintage and rare furniture (chairs, tables etc.) by Nanna ditzel. I was no. 2 to call them but sure ... | |||||
