| I'm not one to agree that if ... I'm not one to agree that if you're a master at architecture, then you must be a master at other creative discipline. This lovefest for FLW as a brilliant furniture designer is a total joke to me, clearly the chairs he designed are not on par with other great furniture pieces of the our time. They are not elegant, clever, inventive, comfortable in any way, shape or form. People are fabricating a false sense of significance for his furniture designs because his name is Frank Lloyd Wright. He might have tried but his creative j ... | |||||

| A guy at a pub, who happens... A guy at a pub, who happens to be a sanctimonius left-hander, yells out after a few bad martinis, all attorneys are assholes! A guy at the end of the bar yells back that he is deeply offended by that remark. The left-hander tells him that his is very sorry, that he didn't realize there was an attorney at the pub, or he would have never made such an incredibly deplorable statement. The other guy says "that's ok, I'm not an attorney, I'm an asshole. - Sandy Koufax | |||||

| ... tough places that still in 1970, say, had some social fabric left that had yet to be utterly wrended, crushed with third world levels of poverty and homelessness, and riddled with gang violence from Dusk til Dawn, to borrow from Quentin Tarrantino, an LA film maker largely formed in this frankly ghastly period of violence in LA. So: I found Frank Gehry when I was still a bit young and at a time early in Gehry's career; when he really, really spoke to me on a gut level about where I lived and what I and my adopted city were going through. As a result, I am v ... | |||||

| ... visual improvement as Wright's early ones probably did in Chicago. Again, you'd have to know Venice of that time to see how I could say this and likely not all would agree with me even then, but I'm talking here about MY first experience of Gehry. Also, Gehry's early work had a sincere irony that anyone could grasp in LA. His early buildings were kind of the architectural equivalent of Kevin Costner's early film acting efforts, which were cool to film industry insiders for their consciously sincere irony as well. People out in the multiplexes in Peoria ofte ... | |||||

| New Artemide Tizio desk lamp I spotted an Artemide box at an auction last night---a closer look revealed that it had never been opened at all! It was for the Tizio desk lamp. I put it on my list of things to bid on. There were dealers of mod furniture there but I didn't notice any of them looking at it. But then again, I wasn't watching it non-stop so I could have missed them. We auction regulars are a stealthy bunch. Anyway, I thought my main problem would be to decide how high I wanted to go. Like $80..or $100... I got it for the opening bid of $5, PL ... | |||||

| Hey James, Thanks. So I... Hey James, Thanks. So I guess that's a no on the authenticity of the piece? I was just thinking, he designed the lamps in 1947, and Howard Miller didn't start producing them until 1950 -- so he just sat on the design for three years? I was hoping otherwise... Brian | |||||

| Ah, the Mephisto metaphor worked... I have two pairs (one sandle, one tie) that I have worn for years and years. It took awhile, but their durability (and my willingness to keep wearing them after they went out of style) finally made their upfront cost well worth it. Regarding the FLW table, isn't it ordinary? But for the edging, not a single thing about it I wouldn't have done with my table saw and glue. Well, maybe I couldn't have done the edging, but then I'd rather it didn't have the edging. 🙂 | |||||

| Ah, the trey, now you've got me started...Pt. 2 And then the TV money came and TV execs wanted the game to keep moving faster and faster. It didn't want any conflicting playing styles, no heterogeneity of approaches to the game that the least saavy basketball fan could not immediately grasp. And then the TV people wanted close games. And then they wanted the visuals of the dunk even when it was not the appropriate shot. And then they wanted a lot more physical contact to give it more visual bling and so the refs were told to swallow their whistles. And then ... | |||||

It was Ford's first attempt at a "world car"; that is, a car designed to be sold more or less the same in all the markets of the world that Ford serves. They spent a ton of development money on it. It did well in Europe. It did poorly in USA and was soon pulled and replaced with two cars--the Ford Focus (a better attempt at a world car) and reskinned Mazda 6 called the Ford Fusion. The Ford Contour/Mondeo made no headway at all in the Far East. Bottom line the Contour/Monde ...

I can't imagine how a black marble table will handle ring spots from sweating glassware. I understand your enviormental concerns perhaps there's another way to protect the marble and solve your problem.

| wooden chairs? Another option is something that contrasts with the table - for a while I had a set of teak Hans Brattrud slat chairs (with low back) around my tulip table and they looked great. The white of the table really emphasised the beautiful grain of the chairs. They also seemed to slot into the curve of the table nicely, didn't obstruct the shape of the table base and were also very comfortable...oh why did i ever sell them! | |||||

Apparently you can use bamboo fibers to make very light weight fabric very near silk in feel that wicks exceptionally well and is durable. At the opposite end, it works quite well for making a natural equivalent of fleece microfiber that has quite a bit of loft and warmth. My guess about Olive finding sheets at Target is that the box stores and discount stores every once in a while just take a flier o ...
