| thanks for responses... I will think seriously about the maui chair. i've like the bertoia for a while but didn't feel it would work. but based on the photos it might. builder-- i kinda like my place with the lines. the only thing that rectangular are the tables. otherwise, the couch is actually rounded to match the curvature of the windows. but i think i can understand what you mean. there's barely anything in the space. once i have some more art, photos, rugs i'm sure it will be warmer. keep the suggestions coming! i have committed to a dinner p ... | |||||

It has taken to promoting ad hoc market phenomena like manufactured housing that expresses the modern revival look and green housing when it emulates a modern revival look. And it has increasingly catered to the nostalgia of the modern revival by calling attention in "Archive" lesser known mid century modern architect's work, while devoting very little to the philosophies that produced the work of these mid century moderns. The last issue of Dwel ...

Many of us 'drones' appreciated when we could put our ass in something nice. It didn't happen often.

I didn't, I was born in Caracas in Venezuela. My family had to emigrate and they first went to Switzerland. But in 1941 they feared that Hitler would march into Switzerland and then they emigrated to Venezuela, to Caracas, where they stayed for ten years, and then they went back to Switzerland again." And now you live in Vienna, not so far away, which is kind of amazing. "Yes, I went to study in Vie ...

| Don't know about recent reissues Don't know about recent reissues, but I own a set of 4 teak ones from the 60s and they're all in good shape. Still very flexible. Only one of them has a crack across the narrowest part but it's in the top layer of the veneer only, no structural damage there. A friend of mine who's pretty heavy likes to lean back in them... this worried me at first, but I didn't see any problems on inspection afterwards. I find them pretty comfortable myself. Hope this helps. | |||||

The best solutions came from discovering what the client didn't know that I didn't know. When I discovered that, THEN I could alter this or tweak that among what he already knew how to do better than most anyone and then the client was off and running and leaving me in the dust...hopefully with a check. Once we discover what we don't know, THEN we can get about the business of solving th ...

I know I was always torn between a desire to write novels and poetry on the one hand, and on doing the real estate consulting work I was trained to do for which there was a lot of demand for. Why was the former so emotionally fulfilling to do, while the latter was fulfilling mostly on levels of mastery of technique and monetary reward? I wanted it to all come out of one thing. I was trying to treat my work li ...

| Well, at least he's not a concert pianist endangering his fingers ? Of course, Koen probably plays piano, too ? Talk about "digging in a little deeper". . .! Have a good night's sleep . In re LRF's note, I recall a pencil drawing made one night at the new women's dorm lounge at RISD, c 1961. A random group of Wegner's most famous chair caught my eye -- though I believe at the time I didn't know what they were. Quite a nice amenity for a bunch of art students to sprawl in. . .? | |||||

| Post script... I beg your pardon for not focusing on the difference between art and design, but I just think I would be doing you a huge disservice to encourage you down that path. And if you are determined to go that path then there are many here more gifted and knowledgeable that I am contributing on this board. I know Koen is going to make a speech about the difference between art and design, and that may make you feel vindicated in your choice of subject matter, but two things should jump out at you about this speech making of his: 1. He implies the art ... | |||||

Thank you in advance for whatever you do whenever you do it. FWIW, I still think those student's at Columbia are about to get the best break in education they will ever get.

| gerrit... I'd didn't mean to sound like a know it all above. I'm sure there are a lot of studies on this by persons far smarter than me. I began this thread just trying to see if anyone had read anything on the subject game theoretic analysis of panic behavior in evacuation situations. You would think the military and emergency management organizations would have done a lot of this. Its probably out there and I just don't know about it. | |||||
